I took apart the bolt carrier for the first time yesterday for a cleaning, and I had a very hard time getting the retaining pin back into place, it seems the ends of the retaining pin is too far apart I can't get it through the second hole.

Does anyone know where to get a new one? I've tried looking everywhere but I can't find it.

It’s supposed to be spread. If not the pin will back out, lock up the bcg and damage the receiver...like mine on it’s theirs shot from new. If you absolutely cannot get it back in, squeeze it ever so slightly with pliers. But not too much, you want it to stay in.

Thanks for replying, I've tried to squeeze it together with pliers but it just acts as a spring and goes back into the same position, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

The way I got it back into the second hole is I had to first get one half of the pin slightly in position in the hole then I had to get a thin flat head screwdriver and push the other half of the pin in from the inside of the bolt carrier. Its not hard for me to do now, but I just wish it was like my AR's, plus I'm thinking about selling it again and I don't want the buyer to struggle with it.

Do retaining pins for AR15 fit?

I had the same problem as you. It's because they're using an AR-15 sized cotter pin which is too short, making installation difficult as the pin tries to spread before reaching the other side. Order an AR10 pin from Brownells.

That is exactly what is happening, its almost completely spread apart when it gets to the second hole I didn't know it was too short.

Could you link or PM me the one you got? I could only find the solid metal one pin, not the cotter pin style.

I just received the AR10 retaining pin, it doesn’t fit, the hole on the bolt carrier is too small, only an AR15 retaining pin that is longer would fit, I’m thinking of trying brownells but it would suck if it doesn’t fit again.

It’s frustrating that BCL would make the bolt carrier this way, they must of known this a problem from when they assembled the bcg, but still sent it out with the wrong size retaining pin.
