What was the gauge? SAAMI .308 or 7.62x51? There is a difference. A .308 No Go is shorter than a 7.62 Go. A .308 Field and a 7.62 No Go are about the same.
Was the bolt's plunger ejector in place? That will make it difficult to feel the gauge.
