Hey Fellas,
I have to pick an optic for this rifle when it shows up in a couple months. I'm wrestling with a long range vs Close range selection.

I'm a fan of Vortex. I have a Viper HS-T on my 223 and really like it so my choice at the moment is either a 4-16 or 6-24 HS-T.

I see a lot of guys putting "AR" style 1-6 ish "close-in" style optic on theirs. To stay with Vortex as an example - a Strike Eagle or similar.

What sort of range would this rifle support? I'm looking for opinion and experience from you guys.
Let me know.

Cant offer any experience as im waiting for mine to arrive but I have a Primary Arms Gen 3 1-6x waiting for it. Mine will be a bush gun so having a true 1x option is important for close range. Im sure the combination will have more than enough accuracy for my marksmanship level. Plus the reticle is pretty nice on it

I would ring my 8" gong at 200 no problem with the 1-6 strike eagle on any of my ARs when i had it though i could also do that with my aimpoint/eotech too but the 6x makes it easier. I'm considering getting a 1-8 for my 102 but for now I've got a 4-16 ffp optic since i want to use it more for precision shooting off the bench until hunting season comes up. Here in southern Vancouver island where i hunt 200yd is a long shot. Lots of heavy bush to be walking through so the strike eagle makes sense.

I’ve been using a bushnell tactical elite for just over 500M.

I chose it as it is a pretty bullet proof scope and this rifle’s main role will be hunting. It is mounted in a Burris PEPR cantilever mount.

Not the best optic by any means but it is rugged with pretty good glass and large turrets that track well and are very usable with gloved hands.

If the rifle was more accurate I would have gone with a better glass.

My 2c

I bought a......well I don’t know what it is. I think it’s a Bushnell or Burris 1-4x. I bought it a while ago and my 102 should be here in a couple days. 4x is plenty for 300m hunting shots for me. I’m gonna go find out exactly what I bought.

Elcan Specter 1-4. It was on my SG542 but was a waste of glass on that bullet hose.....we'll see how it does on the 102. Only 80 rounds through it so far.

I'll be dropping my 4-16 Viper PST on it if I get around to picking up a rifle. I love my PST, you can find them for under 1k in the EE where I got mine.

Trijicon 1-8. With zero stop and adjustable turrets should be good to hit 600 to 700 meters. Really like the 1x6 Razor with the BDC reticle but not being able to dial it up, or no zero stop makes hits past 500 tougher...at least with my AR.

Running a vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 on mine and really like it. The BDC reticle is good out to 570 yards for the 308. I haven't fired it the far as my range isn't that long but I've shot out to 300 and it's been pretty good. My typical hunting range is 50-200 which makes the quick throw lever awesome for quick transitions from CQB out to 200-300 yards. Set this up as my do it all Rifle.

This is the actual 1-8 reticle.

I'm putting on a vortex 2.5x10 PST covers close and as far as I would comfortably shoot out too. Now I just need the gun, looks like I'll be one of the last of "gen 2" so it shouldn't be too much longer.

I’m going to start with one of my 2.5x10 NXS and see how she shoots.
After that I can see dialling down to 1x4 NXS or a 1x8 NXS

Burris E1 3-9X. A very good and cost effective scope that allows me up to shoot close enough and far enough, without breaking the bank. Clear bright optics. No parrallax adjustment but it does have a drop down reticle and wind hold overs.

I was going to get a 1-8 Accupower too, but im going to put a 4-16 on it to test accuracy and if its good, I may use change around the gun to use it like an SR25 minus the weight and have a dot on a 45 for closer shots.

Kind of want a semi auto precision 308. I have a feeling im going to need a better 308 barrel idk, dont got the gun yet.

Anyone getting good accuracy out of their guns?
