BCL102 Range Review, SECOND RANGE TRIP POST 123!!!

Haha nice.

I tend to agree. It really depends on POU. I will be taking mine sheep, elk, moose, and deer hunting in the mountains. Every pound you shave saves a lot of energy when you are doing 10-20km hunting days up and down and up and down and up and down again...

I could use a light weight bolt action, but where is the fun in that! :p

I'm a tree stand hunter. Will work perfect for me.

The guys #####in about weight should flog off and get a T3 light...:nest:

Jay is the Barnes ammo factory loads?

Yes, all factory through the BCL102 so far, including the Barnes.

Hey Jay,
I see the targets I gave you on Wednesday came in handy. Btw it was a pleasure meeting you.

Regards John

Sure did! Thanks John, it was nice meeting you as well! (Oh that lever, THAT LEVER!!!)

Cheers
Jay

I don't get it..all this its too heavy talk...are we talking range work/hunting or packing a rifle and a "full combat load out" which seems well a little bit like zombie end of the world stuff....If thats your game then work out and build up your arms till its not heavy....lol...funny thing is when I was a 12 year old army cadet we shot a 10.5 pound FN and it was not heavy at all, it was pure ecstasy....well at least for my generation...I think these days even air rifles are verboten in that organization...ah progress....if its light you want look closely at a 30-30 winchester...light , easy to handle, no extra magazine weight so you can carry more ammo...add a good single point sling and an optic and you have a fine modern zombie rifle even Justin might touch...

P.S. these are the ramblings of an old mind....

wise words!

I get what you're saying.
Like I said before, I shoot my full sized M14 with a walnut stock all day long. I've humped it in the woods, I've carried it all over hells half acre.
It's at least 10 lbs.
Weight is not an issue when the rifle is balanced and the weight is distributed. It's entirely different when almost all the weight of a gun is at the front end of the rifle.
The M14 (just like the FN FAL which I've also fired and handled) is a very well balanced rifle in terms of balance and weight distribution.
When you take a rifle like that, take 30-40% of the weight of the gun and move it to the very end of the rifle, it becomes a problem. The rifle becomes awkward to hold, aim, manipulate and thus shoot. It's not a problem of overall weight and people being "girly armed" etc it's a problem of where that weight is in relation to the rifle.

I'm not jumping on the wagon until I can handle one personally. Will bide my time. It looks promising otherwise to be honest.

Picked up some:
168 Federal Gold Medal Match
168 Hornady A-Max Match (P&D Enterprises has for $44)
165 Fusion ( On sales at Cabela's for $30 , decent !)

Going to try these mid weight bullets and then move up to some heavier loads in the 175-180 range. I think I will wait for my CMC trigger to arrive before I start chucking GMM downrange at $50 a box

Very curious how these two will group!

168 Federal Gold Medal Match
168 Hornady A-Max Match

Please report back when you've had a chance to hit the range!

Cheers & Thanks
Jay

You fellas should track down some hornady Black 155gr and try that out too. Works well for me in a similar rifle and wasn't badly priced at bass pro, comes in 168 as well but mine liked the 155 better. Never mind the gun store guy that tells you it's just a fancy box, in my experience it's not.

Looks like it can rival the modern hunter for a third of the cost.

Possibly,

But the MH i have for sale right now is only about $1k more, and pulls off sub MOA with factory match ammo....

Trigger is upgraded.... 4 mags.... come to think of it... why am I selling?

so... do you want NEA/BCL? or ATRS?

I have no experience with the BCL 102 or the Modern Hunter yet but I can say that I would put my Modern Varmint up against an NEA 15 or most any other ar-15 any day.
The only reason I'm interested in the 102 is because I wouldn't use an ar-10 type rifle enough to justify the cost of a MH. I'm really hoping the BCL 102 turns out to be a great rifle
