BCL102 Range Review, SECOND RANGE TRIP POST 123!!!

Hey Jay, how much do you have into the rifle so far?

Price wise?
1699 rifle
GG&G 35M QD mount, I think I paid $300 years ago, but that's a guess... Had it on hand...
Elite 6500 1.25-8x32, again 300 something @ LeBaron's when they were clearing them out years ago... Again, had it on hand...
5 XCR-M mags, $40 each
plus robbery rate (tax...)

Cheers
Jay

Nice to see real world results and not what these elitist marksmen want to see. If it shoots the same or better than my m1a standard I'll think it's good for a semi!

Agreed! Nor keyboard sniper wannabe's either!

Other observations now that I have shot & cleaned the rifle twice... With lots of handling, chuckle!

The edges could be nicer around the mag well. For a rifle I intend to carry a bit in the deer hunt, the front of the mag well has edges that could be softened to make it 'nicer' to carry...

The brake is effective BUT LOUD! I may replace it simply to quiet it...

The nitrided barrel is EASY to clean. I put bore foam to it, left it overnight, wiped it out, ran a brush down it 10 times & wiped it out with CLP on two patches, clean. Wiped it out with dry patches to remove the excess oils.

I'm liking the rifle MORE & MORE!

Cheers
Jay

Thanks for the review Jay. (once again)

Do you know any bench shooters in the area? We need someone who has shot minimum of 25k rounds for some serious accuracy testing.

Modern Hunter (imho) was very very over priced... what it had going for it was not the accuracy but NR status.
The law of diminishing returns remains an important consideration when buying rifle/scope/etc.

Is $1.5k-$3k worth additional half inch better grouping? (hypothetically speaking)

Cheers,

Shoot! Forgot that expense, chuckle.

$279 @ SFRC plus the gov's theft rate.

And a replacement trigger is the ONE mod I would recommend everyone do.

Cheers
Jay

If there's anywhere those sayings dont apply, it's in the Canadian Non Restricted market.

To question the groups at this point is bit presumptuous. It's been, what, two weeks since it arrived... give people time to figure out what works just like the MH has been given.

At the end of the day, the BCL 102 is less than half price of a MH. I was very interested and tried building a MH, every option I added ended up costing me more than it would have been buying myself, full price and no credit for removed parts! On top of that, it would takes months to arrive. No plans to offer recievers individually, and lots of explanation about expecting poor groups unless you run match grade. As they say on Dragons Den, for that reason, I'm out.

Absolutely.

What I've taken from these range reports is that the NEA 102 function like a decent AR10. Shoots lots of ammo types and doesn't require a hard to source magazine. It uses forged upper/lowers and comes in at a reasonable price. It may also prove to be the builders choice in Canada if what I suspect works out.

I haven't seen any serious accuracy range reports yet. But the NEA/BCL 102 seems to be passing the plinking, hunting ammo and mag tests just fine. Something it's competitor wasn't able to accomplish no mater the price difference. Once the serious accuracy reports start to happen it will be interesting to see.

Price doesn't always mean reliability and accuracy. By the way when I see a forged upper/lower in an AR10 like the BCL 102 it makes me take even more notice. Many an entry level boutique rifle maker has entered the AR market with billet uppers/lowers as they are easier to produce and require a lot less initial cost. Initial forged costs are much more expensive and the costs have to be recouped over the long run. LMT went from billet to forged with their LMT MWS rifle. I like billet and forged but consider forged to be the mark of a product looking to go military grade and high volume/contract rather than just consumer boutique. NEA starting their 102 out at this level was more than just a side note for me when I read about it..

I'm looking forward to the IOP and will be getting one myself. If this ends up being what I suspect it is, I may end up with two. Rest assured I will be doing accuracy tests with mine using real match ammo and a few handloads. I've had a few moments of weakness where I almost hit the add to cart/purchase during the last presale. It's been tough not getting in on this one and waiting for the IOP.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well. Especially the last paragraph.
