BCL102 Range Review, SECOND RANGE TRIP POST 123!!!

My FDE arrived at the post office a few days ago. I am headed back from from a long work trip so picking my 102 will be one of the first things I do.

Pictures and range report to follow.

Nice!!! You will REALLY like the 102, I honestly think it's going to be a game changer!

Cheers
Jay

What was the load?

I am getting acceptable groups but nothing great yet. I am going to pick up a box or two of match ammo to try. Perhaps tomorrow :p

This rifle is indeed a game changer! As Barney says, don't buy one, buy two!

Range report to follow. Probably in video format.

If you need 5 shots for hunting you shouldn't be hunting.

5 shots minimum for accuracy testing. The first two (?) are touching. Why bother with a third by your logic above. Lets just see some one shot "groups". Only hunting rifles with wimpy barrels need to shoot 3 round groups. This has got a big heavy barrel on it.

If the next three rounds are grouped together nicely 2" low and left and the next three grouped nice and tight 1.5" high and right, is it an accurate rifle/ammo combo?

Actually gentlemen... The first shot from a cold clean barrel is what matters when hunting...

Cheers
Jay

I noticed a trend today. The first 3 would group very close and then the 4th and 5th would ruin the group.

Bottom is 165grn sierra match king.

Who needs money anyways?

Actually the number of rounds fired in each group doesn't matter at all. The only thing that does matter is being able to consistently replicate your results. Once you can confirm consistency you will then know what the true accuracy of your rifle/ammo combo is.
And I have to agree with Jay. First shot, cold bore consistency is what matters most in a hunting rifle. In case you missed it Betty-Lou posted "I think I just found my hunting load". Sorry to say but the lack of 5 shots in the shown group is completely satisfactory as long as that same result is able to be repeated consistently.

The number of shots matters - skip to page 6,7,8.

Ive always went by the 5 shot group rule, it seems to have changed to 3 now, having said that with hot loads
and or pencil barrels its hard to shoot 3-5 quick accurate shots and not have it overheat like crazy.
My 300 H&H im lucky to get 3 shots and shes cooking!

Here are some groups from today. Ammo shot was Winchester SP 150 & 180gr, and Hornady 165gr SST, all at minimum load to try to see if it preferred one bullet weight over the other. It definitely didn't like the 180gr. Nothing exciting happened although it did seem to like the 150 grain. Many of the groups would start with 3 rounds all touching and then the 4th and 5th would be off a bit. I went and bought some fancy ammo to take my reloads out of the equation for tomorrow or sundays range day. I was not shooting from a led sled, but was shooting from a bench with the rifle rested and steady.
