BCRA service rifle shoots with my #4mk1/2

I figure since there's very few rifle shoots up here in the north that I better get off my ass and go to a few BCRA shoots in the okanagon next year. I figure I'll start off with my good 'ol full military Lee Enfield since it's what I have plus it's a rifle I enjoy shooting.

Does anyone have any suggestions on other equipment I should pick up for the Lee Enfield? Any comments on Civillian after market aperature sights (specifically no drill and tap ones) and weather they will help in a service rifle shoot?

Actually getting a decent spotting scope is an excellent idea. I'm thinking about getting myself another forend and bedding it DCRA style. I know someone with a rifle done in this style and I think with some studying and some reading I can duplicate it.

I figure with proper bedding and a good target rear site my rifle will be set. It's the other equipment that I'm worried about. How a about target sling? For the rundown I'd probably just take it off but for the rest of the shoots it might be worthwile.

So here's my list so far:

Lee Enfield #4mk1/2 set up target style,
target sling,
decent spotting scope,
good reloads on stripper clips,
a "no fuss" ammo pouch,
good clothing for all sorts of weather,
notepad with pens/pencils,
lots of practice,
and a good attitude. :D

I love military rifles of ALL species.And no I don't let them sleep in the bed with me...usually. :wink:
 
Tudenom I am also interested in using an Enfield in this sport...for much of the same reasons you listed..ie it's all I have, and all I can afford right now.

I'd be interested in following your progress on this.

Regarding the ammo pouches...I'm going for British/Canadian 1937 Pattern Web gear.

Fits well with the type of rifle we are using, I have seen many of this stuff in Army Surplus stores in BC, and other parts of Canada at not a bad price. :D

I too have been thinking about the '37 pattern gear and already have a few of the items I'll need to keep all the essential gear on board.

Right now I'm still collecting pieces but am planning to practice the center bedding on my Lee Enfield Bubba first. I'll keep you updated as per my progress and maybe by summer next year I'll be able to posts some results of my labour. Who knows, maybe we'll bump into each other sometime :)

I think the hardest thing to do is to find a place not too far out of town that'll let me practice shooting up to 500 m. There's a 1000m range under construction here in PG, I'll have to find out if it's going to be available for use in 2006.
 
You can shoot the BCRA full matches with the enfield if you like, they give you extra time on the rapids and such. It is what the rangers shoot.
 
I hear yah...our local range is only 100yards long, and as we know ones Enfield doesn't even shine until the 200 yard mark. :cry: I have plans to visit the Victoria range again...that Gong on the hill was making faces at me when I was there with my .22 for the silloute day. :twisted:

Hey here is another page on webbing...not much in the way of what we need, but I'm thinking having 2 Bren pouches on your chest can hold an awefull lot of ammo in Chargers, along with a beverage. :mrgreen:

The DCRA rules specify that certain optical scopes are permitted for the service rifle shoot.

What are the limitations on optics (say for in Tudenom's case a No4 enfield).

For the Service Rifle Discipline,, the DCRA rules state:

Rule: 3.03 Sights
1. Any sight may be used.
2. The sight may be adjusted in any manner throughout the conduct of any match.
3. There will be NO allowance of time extensions for the adjustment of the sights.
4. A sun/rain shade may be attached to the sight.
