Hi all,
As many of you know I'm a year away from having my PAL, but that's just it: I don't have my PAL. I got a folder with a bunch of forms from the BCRA for the new shooting year, and it says on there specifically that a PAL is needed or members may not shoot. I was under the supervision of a member last year because I was borrowing a rifle, but now that I have my own, will I be able to join and shoot it without my father being there? Will I be able to shoot the Chilliwack Tac-Rifle match?

Thanks,
-Rohann

I would think the BCRA would be like the DCRA, and want to have their asses covered in accordence with Canadian law. I know at the DCRA Matches you don't get your match tickets until you show your PAL.
If it is a civialian rifle at a shoot, you need to follow the laws. Military and cadets follow CFAO's when shooting DND rifles on DND ranges.

After reading this I'm a little confused. How can you possess a firearm if you do not have a PAL?

Without a PAL you can not legally own , possesss, nor borrow a firearm under the current law.

I am assuming that the rifle was bought and registerd to his father...............At least I hope so, legal wise......;)

As long as you have someone coming over with you that has a valid licence that allows him posses said rifle, and is with you for the entire time, I do not see a problem.

Maybe contqact Parker-Hale Mike since he is running the show and is over there on the Island as well.

jeepingpw: No no, Skullboy's right; it was bought and registered in my fathers name. I just call it "my" rifle because I paid for it and I shoot it.

I emailed the secretary who runs the island shoots, but he hasn't replied yet. I'm pretty sure it would be ok if my father and I talked to someone specific before the shoots, and place the rifle under their supervision.

Thanks,

As usual when you are involved.......:D :dancingbanana:   :p ;)

To be legal you just need someone with a valid PAL to be in possession of the rifle on the way over, on the range, and where you are staying. That person is borrowing the rifle from your Dad, and is supervising you at the match.

We have had a few young shooters (under 18) who have shot service rifle and the Sniper match who don't have their PAL.Their parents owned the firearms and supervised them at the Shoots.

Oh ok good, yeah that's what I thought. I don't really mind how it works out, as long as I get to put rounds downrange. And yes, you usually do seem to be correct when I'm involved :D.

And don't get arrested for unlawful possession, strip searched, and "bunked" with Bubba..........Remember the scene in the original Rambo where he gets his Firehose Shower????....that could be you........allthough a lot smaller and less intimidating.........:p :D ;)

Haha I'll be sure to be careful of that; that's definately not something I'd look forward to :p.

after reading more carefull, i understand. If it's registered in your dads name, anyone with a PAL can borrow it & take it to the range for you to use under their supervision. You can get a minor PAL through your local Registar of Firearms, but its a big pain. I looked into it for my son, but we shoot together so not really needed. All you should do is get your dad involved & all is good, plus it adds one more guy coming out to the shoots. Don't get discouraged & keep on shooting.

Rohann, you're spotting for your dad right? ;)
Spotters have to shoot too right? :)
Um...yes! Of course I am :D!

I've tried to get my minor's license, but the CFC was being a royal pain. After challenging the test (which some lady told me I COULD do as a minor:mad:) and getting 98%, I send in my forms and I wait...and wait...and wait. Finally, 3 months later, I phone THEM and then tell me that "no, that's not good enough. You have to take the course." So, quite annoyed, I take the basic form of the course with the guy that did my PAL test. So then I re-send in the forms...and wait...and wait. After nearly a YEAR, I phone them. Apparently, the version of the course I did wasn't good enough, because I didn't re-take the test (which some idiot at the CFC told me I didn't have to do) and I didn't "pay for the whole course" (because the guy that did my PAL didn't charge me). After that I thought "screw it, I'll just wait another 2 years".
Sorry for the rant, but it's still frustrating today; I'd be out shooting right now if I had that license.

I'm sure the shooting part will work out, but I'm just not sure what to put on the BCRA registration form.
