BCRA Tactical Rifle rules and Course of Fire 2008

Seems like an outstanding shoot and hopefully will get a team there this year. I know it's a Tactical shoot but revealing the courses of fire prior is not as realistic as it could be. I think it would be more challenging if the courses of fire were not announced prior nor would you know the details prior to when deploying on an actual call. Guys that have their #### together will do good. It would be nice to know the course of fire prior to when deploying on an actual call whether it be police or military but it doesn't work that way, that's what makes this job challenging, especially when it really counts.
 
I think for the type of shoot it is it is a great shoot. Letting people know what the shoot is doesn't necessarily make it any less challenging as everyone knows it and can practice for it. You therefore have to be on your game to make sure you score maximum points. I hear what you are saying though, the unknown can add a level of stress to things.
 
I don't think knowing the course of fire is a very big advantage, as most of the matches can't be practiced anyhow (unless you have access to the obstacles, and/or a target puller/moving target).
The long-ish range prone firing matches with variable time limits, you know those are going to be there, whether announced or not. Positional shooting is also pretty much a given, best to practice them all. The match in question might change on game day anyhow, for any of a number of reasons.

The fact that the majority of the competitors never seem to have any idea what match is next seems to say that it's not that important to them :)
 
The course of fire is given out ahead of time for many reasons.

There are folks that would potentially show up when they aren't ready to compete and would be over their head but it is too late to turn back.

It would also be a mess trying to keep 60-96 shooters organized and ready to go with no heads up on what is going to happen in advance. As it is it gives me heartburn trying to keep it all in check and running smoothly and also compete in the match.

It also entices those that are ready to come out by seeing what we have to offer, it's different than most competitions but it's a blast to shoot.

The other item is the S word, Safety is very important to us. With giving you the course of fire it lays out what we expect in advance, no question or confusion. Nobody gets hurt, we all go home at night.
 
I don't care if I am told before, or right before, I just care when 2009 is gonna be so I can book the time off. Mike and all who help run an awesome shoot. And knowing what is coming doesn't change how challenging the shoot is.
 
ive been out of the loop for a few years, but definately gonna attend this year!

was there a gas mask stage this year? i remeber doing one back in 04/05, it was so much fun
 
are the dates set in stone yet? I'm off June 26-29th already. so that weekend is good for me.
 
The dates are the 20th and 21st of June this year, the same weekend as usual. The island regional Tac match is on the 6th of June. The island service rifle match is going to be on the 17th of May. I will be posting the schedules in the next few weeks.
 
Even better I am off thursday to sunday that week. BBQ at my house on the friday night again. Maybe someone can put together a compilation of Longshots screen appearances so we have something to entertain us?
 
just a note. no CD or DVD was produced from this past event due to the number of requests from people to not be included.
