For those who are interested in shooting F-class and stretching it out more that 300m and never been to the the Vokes Range in Chilliwack here's my brief account of the range.

First off I'm still getting to know the nuances of the sport and no means a good shot especially around being around more seasoned shooters. What really makes this range great is not the range itself but the shooters on the line. They are always helpful, understanding and very receiving. So new shooter should not hesitate in trying out this beautiful range. Membership to the BCRA is needed however there is a Introductory membership which is great value to a new shooter wanting to try something different.

After shooting the 400, 500, and 600m for first time. It has really reinforce my love of this sport and affirm I really like shooting longer range. At these distances it's humbling.

Equipment to consider:
Boots - you may encounter wet fields so wet shoes are not comfortable to shoot
Rain paints - you may encounter wet field conditions
Mat or something to lay down on just to make shooting on the ground more confortable.
Bug spray - if your mosquito sensitive some bug spray to keep the pest away.
Lunch - no food facilities for miles unless you could fish.
Ballistic Charts - helpful in dialing in your scope. I found my charts were just a tad high a 600m but everything under that was pretty much bang on.

Shooting Position 300, 400m, 500m & 600m:
The shooting areas are all grass covered and the grasys knolls make the shooting position comfortable and dryer compared to the flatter part of the field. Wind flags line the middle of the field in 100m increments. I quiet enjoyed shooting from all these position.

Facility: There is a building with washrooms as you drive into the range. This is where most shooters will check in. On field and at butts there are out houses so you don't have to run a long ways when nature calls. The butts and targets are top notch a little heavy for a person with a small frame if your marking the whole day but counter weights make the frames well balance.

Here some photos of today's shoot.

Bisley has then got to rank as the the best range facility on the planet maybe next to Camp Perry.
Top 5 for Volkes would be pushing it.

Never been to Perry but the ranges is Bisley aren't really in that great a shape. Century whivh is the main range is full of ditches and swampy areas. Volkes is a dream in comparison.

canada lands corporation is the one that owns all fed government land in canada. they are always flogging property but if someone were to ask the feds for access to clc property on a long term $1 lease.....let the rcmp and CF have access istead of begging range time on an army range only to have them boot you off right before a match. build it and they will come. a 900m fullbore range with enought targets for a big match and you could say goodbye to connaught and its thousand dollar fees.

i think if you could convince the feds you can do a better and cheaper job than the vokes range and have a larger range, they would jump up and down.

Century ain't swampy in the summer. And then you can't beat 1200 yards of fun on Stickledown. I don't know the last time you were there but the Brits sunk $10 millions into it about 6 years ago. The social seen at Bisley with all the clubs and the acceptance of being able to buy a pint of beer is just so incredibly more civilized to the straight jacket mentality we have in North America IMO.

Last time I was there was summer 2010. Keep in mind i was there with army teams. Lots of fire and movement. Any rain and the right side of century floods. Not to mention the state of the butts. If you drop anything into the Target holder ditch you don't reach in to get it out. Totally nasty lol. And the frames are pretty beat too.

Disagree.

Match fees at Connaught are not a thousand dollars (though the cost of the whole 7-9 days of shooting will exceed $1000, when food accommodation and ammo are added in). The recently introduced F-Class National Championship (>200 shots) is much more affordable in time (3 days) and money ($350 match fee), hopefully shooters will make that a success.

Shooting a major national match at Connaught is expensive, for a whole variety of reasons, but the price of the facilities is not one of them; the amount of the entry fees that goes to pay for the range is $0.

LMR Fullbore Championship - Vokes Range 2012

Finished another shoot and it was a gorgeous weekend high twenties into the thirties. This time you could see the mountains, simply beautiful day.

Sun Screen or you be sun screaming when your burnt.
