Hey guys, I'm thinking of picking up a new scope for my 17 hmr. Does anyone have opinions on bdc reticles for 17 gr v max? I'm thinking about the vortex crossfire ii bdc in particular. Main use is gophers and zero at 100 yds. Opinions and other tried and true options greatly appreciated. ( sweet 17 is already off the list) thanks!

Burris with their Ballistic Plex Reticle give the following holds for the Hornady 17 grain VMax.

All are within a couple of inches depending on elevation, wind, humidity, etc.

This 4.5 - 14 x 42 scope is on my CZ 455 Varmint 22 LR. The examples are stick on's printed on a 8.5 x 11 sheet.

The sheet applying to rimfires is attached:

I have a viper 3-9x40 with bdc. Zero at 100 next dash is 150ish and the next is 200. Thats as far as I have shot. Also at 25 yards on mine you use the second dash for dead on but at gophers from 0 out to 125 ish its crosshairs and its a goner

Excellent! That is what I wanted to hear! So your viper has a lowest ao setting of 50 yards correct? Does this make for any trouble with the "pop up 5 years away" gopher shots? At 3x I'm guessing not so bad. I had to take my Zeiss conquest 6.5-20 off this rifle as 6.5 with 50 yard min adjustment is just too much for my liking on the closer shots. I'm leaning towards a 4-12x.

Thanks for the info! How do you like the glass on the Burris? I'm partial to vortex but the 4.5-14x is quite appealing as well.

Its a 100 yard paralax scope. Ive shot gophers with it at around 5 feet they are a bit blurry but you can see where you need to. When busy shooting there isn't enough time to be turning dials and ranging everything. Spot, guess range, and shoot.

I really like the quality. 22 holes are easily seen at 100 meters, and when the range is less that 50 yards, turning the power down brings everything into focus.
Plus there was a $100 rebate that went with it which I have not received yet.
