I posted a couple of weeks ago that I was surprised how much the price of ammo has risen. Well it hasn't risen as much as I thought! I knew Gagnons wasn't the cheapest place but I didn't realise how much they juiced their ammo prices! They had 9mm for $17.99/50 and .45 for $34.99/50! Well I was at William's Arms yesterday and the exact same 9mm ammo was $12.95 and the exact same .45 ammo was $22.95!

It really pays to shop around!

As a matter of fact, I was in the US yesterday and looked at ammo prices - same thing. For example, Gander Mountain had the 333 Winchester 22lr for US$14.99  - It's 10 bucks CANADIAN at Wal-Mart in Canada!!! Generally Gander Mountain had higher prices than Buffalo Gun Center. So, goes to show you it pays to shop around (even in other countries...). Disclaimer: not promoting or condoning the purchase of ammo outside Canada - this is just an observation.

BTW - the pistol counter at BGC was really busy - lots of hand guns were being sold while I was there.

$34.99/50 for .45ACP is insane. I have never paid more than $25.

There is a local store here selling .40 S&W for $43.99:jerkit:

Yea  Sometimes I don't know how the folks @ CHWK dart and tackle sleep at night

Went there yesterday on the way to the range to get some 9mm, had to pay $21.99 a box for 124 grn. American Eagle!!

Come home, and I go on Cabelas.ca to see it for $12.99! (out of stock though)

####ing horse####

Wow....bend over....that's insane!

Yeah, no kidding. I was at Italian Sports and bought the American Eagle's 180 gr for $21.99 and Blazers 165 gr for $20.99 2 weeks ago.

I really don't think that ammo prices went up that quickly.

Re: Dart and Tackle, I am all able supporting the local shop but not when I'm getting hosed. I find there prices are out to lunch on a lot of things...

I have been paying $43.00 for rem/umc in 10mm auto, but mostly just to get a supply of brass to load.I live in small town central b.c.,and havent looked around too much as it is handy to buy local and we dont go to the city much.(except to the kamloops gun show every year:).Guess i should shop around also.:(

I find it funny when you ask why the price increase. and they give you the BS story of the dollar being so low. then you remind them that the dollar was lower 2 years ago and ammo was way cheaper then. that always gets a look of confussion.

Funny you mention that because that's exactly the conversation and  face I got when I mentioned the dollar two years ago. I tried to give Gagnons a chance as many people harp about the horrible customer service but this has to be the final straw.

The Chinese have been purchasing metal (Tin, lead, brass, steel, iron, copper...) from all over the world. This has resulted in sky-high market prices for metals.

Ammo is unfortunately made from metals... the results of which are obvious on the store shelves.

please remember when shopping around that some stores still have old stock so the price is the same as before the dollar took a s**t. but some others are just jamming the arm in. and the price 2 years ago didnt reflect the increased cost of lead or the manufacturers increases.
I had a guy 2 weeks ago who wouldnt pay 13.50 a box both taxes included for 9mm ae 115 grain so its all relative to the customer

I don't understand what point you are trying to make? I think most people know what has been going on with the metals. Does this have anything to do as to why Gagnons is so much overpriced compared to other ammo dealers?

I'm not trying to jack the thread, but from my limited dealings with Gagnons I thought the customer service was very good, I felt they more than went out of their way to keep the customer (me) happy. But then again I don't deal with them on a weekly basis, so I might have just lucked out.

thats like Bass Pro shops marking their 4.95$/Box of UMC .223 to 9.95$/box over night.. Even when the dollar was at par!

La Baron is now 9.99$/box of white box Winchester .223 As is Epps.

Because one of the guys on this board complained.

UMC is only $9.49

Its called gouging, stores aren't restocking yet with product recently purchased, its ammo from orders they placed last year. Every store in Canada seems to be doing it. FS
