Bear bait is out

Bring back the spring bear hunt in Ontario!!! :(

x100! The people who whined about the spring bear hunt callin it "inhumane" and got it cancelled for the rest of us are the same people calling the MNR every second day to complain about bears in their yard or call the cops to have the bear killed.

Waderow, i can guarantee that i saw a lot Bears than You. May be in others Provinces bears are rare and you have to bait them for kill. But not in Quebec, bears are everywhere.

It's seem to me that every time i emit my opinion reactions are provacate and that's why this forum is.

Bye, Judes

Bye, Judes

I would spot and stalk with my bow if there was a half assed chance of success around here...but there isn't!
I watch piles of bears over bait before I loose an arrow and have hunted 3 seasons without taking one even though I could have taken many. It's not only about the kill.
Now if your opinions always provoke a negative response you should consider the reasons why.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and going away mad or hurt or whatever you are is rather petty...just because folks disagree.

I shot my first bear walk and stalk. It is doable, and easy. You will find them on the hill sides eating grass.

I see bears graving in ditches and sides of roads as soon as there is some greenery in the spring......doesnt' do me a lot of good when the season opens August 15th.....They are in the bush eating berries by then.

I have bears in the yard at my friends place.. they come out every garbage day...

its kind of like baiting.. (some of them are mean towards people too../agressive)

I walked out side and had a bear chase me back inside 1 time walked out around the corner and it charged me.. It got shot through a window after it did that though :p then I called it in and they told me I had to deal with the corpse because I shot it.. (it was near a city park with allot of kids around in the middle of the day..)

Bear baiting is grrrrrrrrrrrreat!

I sat in a guy's stand last year (I ran the bait while I was with him, so technically I baited his stand) and I saw three bears in three nights.

I saw three bears the rest of the year, and I was in the woods a lot. All were in the summer, out of season, and one was in a game preserve and the other two were a sow and cub.

So, baiting is the way to go!

In a few weeks I'm heading up into the hills I'll spot and stalk because baiting is illegal here in BC and you really don't need it if it was legal I would give it a try though.

When I'm fishing I sometimes bait my hook and other times I don't and I'm awesome at flossing sockeye/springs... :p

Baiting is not hunting, it's kill for kill, nothing glorious.

^ get the picture?

You know nothing about baiting and bear hunting in QC bud, 99% of folks who hunt black bears in the province do it over bait. Go sit in the corner, you're on timeout for spewing giberish nonsense on the internet.

You missed the part about all the work setting up the work

Right.....but worth it...I do actually look forward to checking the trail cam for new pics...refreshing the bait over a long time can get expensive depending on what you use (they really like the Sweet horse feed ) .

The best part is if you are quiet you can sneak up on them while they are still at the bait....that's the only stalking ive done....only when Ive figured out around what times they hit the bait.

Well I myself have been hunting black bear for about 4 years now using both the baiting and spot and stalk techniques and I love them both! That being said, to date I have killed 3 bears with my PSE bow by spot and stalk and zero bears off the bait. For those who think spot and stalk is impossible they were all boars and I had a large selection of bears to choose from. Perhaps its because I live in the heart of God's country where we have more bears than prairies have gophers and also a spring season! Dont get me wrong I love baiting too and hope to take a great bear off a bait this spring, I just wanted to make a point about Black Bear hunting methods.

Happy Bear hunting all...no matter the method!

Exactly.....The point I was trying to drive accross is that the methods will differ depending on where you and when you hunt (Bears are spotted a lot more in the spring around here).

That's why I invited Judes to come to my backyard so he could show me how it should be done....

Guess I'm very lucky to live in B.C. we used to hunt Bears every spring, just to get out early in the year. Strictly spot and stalk here. In the coastal mountains we have tons of Bears. Glassing cut lines and slide shoots then evaluate them and plan a stalk, tons of fun. Never had any of us shoot a sow, normally mature boars as there is plenty of time to check size and hides. Gearing up for my Grizzly draw now, I'll be spotting and approaching of foot, hopefully. I won't be packing my 30-30. lol

Remember to check the size of the ears if they are big the bear is small if you can't see the ears the bear is big... :D

This grizzly that I shot June 1/08 skull was officially scored at 24 1/16" which makes it eligible for the lifetime B&C record book that is if I ever get around to sending in the info...

I'm waiting for a pumpkin to spew... :p

Heading out to check and replenish our baits within the hour.Take a 5 gallon pail suspended between two trees[rope] hung upside down with a beaver tied in it hung at 7' or so.The pail prevents the ravens and martens from stealing the beaver and the bears stand on their tip toes pulling off pieces of beaver.Stinking the high heaven in the sun..............will take and post some pics.................Harold **** barrels are 1/2 full of fish scrapes and will be topped with popcorn and deepfryer /bacon grease.Oh yes we carry it all in on our backs as we don't own a quad. Then wait in a tree for hours and have a wise nocturnal boar that won't come in during daylight hours.BEAR BAITING IS SO EASY....................BS
