bear bait ....used cooking oil

McDonalds, A&W . . . don't tell them what you want it for . . . just make up some weird excuse . . . The veterinarian suggested mixing it with slack coal to deworm my hogs . . . or mixing it with their feed to prevent mange . . . or spray it on them to prevent sunburn. Be really creative . . . the bigger the fib the more likely it will be believed!

if you can put a beaver carcass high enouh in the tree you will not need any oil .... same with a seal carcass ... but it s a long time since i baited black bear. donuts works great too ...

ok thanks for the replies
i dont hunt bears

what i am after is a price for oil.
i have about 17 gallons of it and was thinking of selling it locally(lots of bear hunters around me)

The restaurants will give it to you free as they have to pay to dispose of it......also go to movie theaters and get lawn bags of old popcorn /a lot lighter than packing meat.....Harold

Get to know some fast food restaurant owners. :) Gets picked up on a regular schedule, so speak early. Also good for making scent trails to the bait site. Might have competition from some bio diesel freak though.

Grizz

My wife put out an ad on Facebook for me last year. Within an hour I was on my way to pick up 20 5 gallon pails from a chip stand owner, can't see having much luck selling it.

i have been giving it away to what bear hunters i know and now
they have enough for a years supply.

i will try and find others who hunt bears

thanks for the replies and advice

big help

Maybe you can find some hippie that will buy it to put in their VW diesel powered Jetta. It would probably be easier to sell it that way than as bear bait

Coffee almost came out my nose.

The places I have gotten it from give it away but you have to fill your containers from their big bin. It's disgusting. I would happily pay $0.05 a litre if it was already in pails.

Fish oil would work better wouldn't it
It's not hard to make I would cut it with a bit of canola oil and put in a spray bottle
The coast right now candlefish Spohning in the rivers and the best sent you can find and you don't need much spray it on a rock or base of a tree and the Bears will be there that night
BC hunters can't use bait but you can spray fish oil on the rocks on base of trees to attract Bears

Just hit any restaurant ask for the used oil.......find the cheapest dog food mix with it .... put in a 20 litre pale put small.... small hole in bottom .... pull pale up a tree or just high enough so it stands on back legs reaching for it and ...... you have the perfect shot at vitals !!!! As your walking to your stand splash some oil on the trees for the smell (have gun ready!!!) I had bears following me!!!
Grab a bag of marshmallows stick them on branches....mmm the sweet smell....also you can eat a couple ( I have done this )...... them at same time grab the cheapest juice crystals... or jello crystals....or the cheapest hot chocolate and throw it everywhere even as you walk to your stand..... and throw very small amounts in the air...the air ... the air will carry it along way
Eh be ready with sling shot.... yes Dio cane I said sling shot to whack the small bears away .... and make way for the bigger ones or just watch them fight ( bring cam corder to video tape) its funny to watch them case each other around .... it works.... eh get back to me and let me know how it goes.... davide
