Just to be clear, the bait would be well over 400 meters away on a buddies farm down the road and the dump in question isn't a landfill, but i'm sure that plenty of stuff finds its way into the sorrounding woods.

It's a perfect spot, only 10 minuted from my house with hundreds of acres backing onto county forest. I just wonder if the bears would even bother with a whole garbage dump just a few hundred meters away. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Spring season by the way.

Also, obvious typo. I'm a dunce. Derp

Don't eat dump bears.

Otherwise, the dump is an established draw and your bait will draw from that, provided your bait is better than what they find at the dump.

If yer in it for the hair you should be good to go.

Why would you want to? Sure it's low hanging fruit but I wouldn't want to eat anything that spends its entire day licking baby diapers?

No thanks

Patrick

Ha ha, good point guys. I actually didn't think about that. I was so concerned about bears ignoring the bait i didn't consider that if they were getting food from the dump, they were... eating at a dump... so, thanks. Feel stupid now. Definately won't want to be thinking of baby diapers while i'm eating.

Gonna have to find somewhere on crown land out the next town over but there at least they'll be eating real food.

I found a dead one near the place i'm thinking of so hopefully it works out.

Nybody got any other advice, my ears are open.

Where are you located. If it's close to where I hunt I can give you the layouts of my bait sites I use yearly. My first kid is due in Feb next year so I won't be bear hunting next year

I'm in a little town called killaloe. About an hour west of pemboke headed towards algonquin south gate. Driving is the norm here if you wanna do anything so if you're nearby that'd be great.

Congrats by the by. I just hit 3 last year. Hope he/she is happy and healthy.

I wouldn’t shoot a bear within five miles of a dump or landfill except for just a hide and even then given the bears I used to see while doing contract work at the North Bay landfill I would pass. The stuff stuck to their fur was gross.
Find a small corn or oat field. Bears love corn and oats especially rolling around in the oats??

^^^^^
my buddy who showed me the ropes this year has a bait set up not 40 yards from a corn field.

he shot two bears there this year and i spooked one (or he spooked me i should say) and he still had 4 more on his trail camera... don't expect to have that same luck on my own.

Sure you will if you put in the time scouting and learning/observing. Glean as much info as you can from your buddy too. He is having good success. Learn from him.
