bear baiting question?

have had 10 baits spread out in a 15 mile area...put them out last week and after 7 days nuthin,,,,im i too late or should igive up this year? last year all the baits were hit...lots of bear in the area last year

Seems a little odd doesn’t it, you would think at least a couple of the sites would have been visited for some tasty snacks. Regardless, it certainly isn’t too late.
What are you using for bait?

Around here (MB) the best time for fall bear baiting are the first two weeks in September, after that they start getting really erratic in how they hit baits.

using oats corn molasses donuts mixed w dog kibble...ive noticed mast has been droppung...beach nuts acorns etc

Lots of berries still around. Have you put any lard or used cooking/fryer oil?
I've been up north for a few weeks and out of 13 stands 2 are getting hit. Using almost the same as you, except I added mollases and lard.

I would keep baiting. My guess is there is other stuff for them to eat but once that drys up they should show up. Make sure you have some stink baits. If there were bears last year my guess they are still there unless someone else is bating or other food supplies. Still not to late just need to be patient. Baits can go cold and get hot quick.

not to late the bears are still out feeding. did you put your baits in the same spots as last year? I find bears tend to return to places they found food before. usually our bait get hit within hours(not days/weeks but hours) of us setting them up. I put a camera on one of our sites a couple of years age in april and had bear pictures starting in may as they came out of den. even with no food there they still had to pass by to see if there was. try spraying some anise (licorice) oil and/or liquid smoke around your sites they can smell it for miles. vanilla extract will also work.

Still blue berries on the occasional bush here, but nowhere near august numbers. Chokecherries too.
I put a bit of bacon grease and some bucket candy out in an area where I had seen bear activity. Not much for a week and then over a week the bucket candies were gone. about 10 pounds of solid candy vanished. Must have stood there and licked and licked and licked......

i use apples and it doesn't matter when i put them down all i see is bear #### all around the missing pile.

I had 7/7 baits hit almost everyday until I shot my bear and we scared every living thing away so I could get out

Not too late. I had a little bear heaven going on last year, put the barrel out this year and nothing for 3 weeks. Finally found it and only took the carrots but ignored the fryer oil??

Around here they go for mushrooms for a couple weeks and then come back to the barrels.
