"bear bullet" (nosler bounces off of a bear)

Am I the only one who sees a front lead portion missing from the bullet?
Another thing, I would personally look closer at the tree that the bear was standing by, than at a rock. The edges of warped copper jacket are smooth, which is unlikely to happen from impact of a rock. Sounds like a defective bullet and missed shot. Bounced off a tree trunk due to air cusion in the front partition instead of lead. My 2 1/4 c.

Svt-40,
Nosler partitions sepparate often, and have been killing things with boring regularity since the 1940s. The pre-occupation with retained weight of bullets is more recent. A lot of this is from advertising. It's ironic to see someone parading a high weight retention, fused construction, huge mushroom wonder bullet that they recovered in a little bitty deer. If they penetrated so great, nobody would ever find one right? Soft bullets will usually kill faster on broadside lung hits than harder deep penetrating bullets. The problem is that if you hit a shoulder bone on bigger animals they might not have enough penetration to do the do the job. The Partition combines both, frangible construction and what basically amounts to a wadcutter solid for a backup plan should the extra penetration be needed. You can have the best of both worlds and it's been working for decades. I'll never believe that a Partition bounced off a bear. If there was enough velocity to expand the bullet, there was enough to penetrate the bear.
That bullet looks exactly like a bullet picked up on a dirt target berm at the range. I expect that there is a heart shot tree or two in that bush, or the shooter's buddy is still laughing at his joke.:D Either way, it's Bullsh*t.

Asuming its a true story, he'd have to use that .30.30 like a single shot wouldn't he?

I've not seen round or flathead partitions.

Kind of a clunky set up for a follow up shot

Reloading books I have say that the 30/30 doesn't provide enough velocity to utilize the spire point bullets to their fullest?

I checked my book, and yup, they make a Partition for the 30/30.
