Bear Charge. What guns are you bringing into the bush?

And that's not a small factor. Lots of people can't run a bolt gun worth a ####. Not saying that I wouldn't use a semi in an appropriate cartridge so long as it had proven itself, but it takes a lot of shooting before I trust a semi as they tend to be fussier about ammo and dirtiness than bolt guns do. But if you can't run a bolt under stress (real stress) then you're better off with something else.

IMHO, If you use a good semi auto, any off the shelf regular hunting ammo and clean your good quality semi say every 6-700 rounds, reliability will be on par with any good quality bolt gun with the same treatment and useage.

This is my experience with a Browning BAR that I've owned since the early 90's....I trust this rifle with my life and will pick it over a bolt gun when retrieving game in Grizzly country that had to be left out over night before bringing it back to camp.

The semi lets me focus on hitting the target with NO distractions...gotta like that! :)

In some cases a gun is no help at all. Although this has a bit of a fake look to it, I think it's probably pretty close to what real attack would be like. I've read that one thing many survivors remember is the absolutely putrid stench of the bears mouth.
