Bear defense.... 4 bore rifles.

Several years ago at the Easter Calgary Gun Show there was a handmade custom 4 bore side by side displayed by the fellow who built it. It was several years of work and the finest design and workmanship I have ever examined. I forget the man's name but I believe he lives in or close to Kamloops. I would value that rifle in the hundreds of thousands.

The load I shot was 400 grains of 2F powder and a 1750 grain bullet, from what I have read 200 pound recoil and from my experience yes, I shot it twice and that was enough for 1 day

I totally believe you, the biggest hunting rifle I have ever shot was an Enfield my Brother built in 500 Jeffery.
Now this pales in comparison to yours both in powder charge and especially bullet weight, but it was all the recoil I wanted..

If it took more than one shot, you weren't using a Jacobs.

Or a Holland and Holland.

Was the purpose of the second barrel to blow yourself back into the zip code you just left from firing the first?

That is the gun that I fired and it is a very nice piece, about 24 pounds if there were 2 elephants you need 2 shots and if the elephant isn't happy you may wish you had more
