Bear defense gun?

Hi everybody

make me smile when people say that bear attacks are rare and we don't have to worry about that

when it happens to you , words does not count at all

i was attacked by a black bear of about 250 pounds and i for sure will not be telling you this story if i will not have carrying a rem pump 760 gamemaster in 300 savage

5 shots thru him from 150 feet to less than 20

he charged full throttle without any provocation from me

so now and since then i carry a 12 ga win. Mod 12 that i modified with ghost ring peep sight and short barrel

my advise carry a gun

too bad we can't carry a revolver but that is another story

Agreed 100%, or at the very least bear spray and/or a 6-8lb fiberglass handled maul standing in your campsite. Swung with precision, it may not come back requesting another tap, you've got nothing to lose swinging, if he's danger close as happened to power wagon73.

100% agree with this. Don't believe the flippant "don't worry about this none issue" opinions.

I experienced the same thing, bear started out at only about 40 feet. If I didn't have an SG and slugs in hand I might not be here writing this.

Rare or not, when it actually does happen to you, you will not buy the don't worry about it rhetoric.

And don't buy this bear spray, bear bell on a stick or clap your hands garbage. When you experience a bear actually coming at you full tilt for no apparent reason you will realize how much garbage all those toys are.

Carry a damn gun when in bear country and know what you're doing with it.

I always carry in the bush, either my 45/70, 12.5" 870, or my Mares leg in .44 Magnum. The mares leg is the one most often strapped to my fishing vest, a couple years ago I had to use it to scare away a big black bear who seemed to have bad intentions.

I'd even feel comfortable with my Snake Slayer in .45 Colt, I can hit an 18" gong at 30 yards with it and it slips in a pocket quite easily. too bad we aren't allowed to carry pistols...

Just last week I was fishing a local Cariboo stream and ran into a wolf and a big bear. Felt good to have 6 rounds of 310 grain 44 mag at the ready.
