Win 38-55 I agree to a point with you saying but I also know that penetration is the key no matter how good your shot placement is and when that bullet fails to reach into that grizzlies brain is why I would never carry any light round for bear defense.
When I am in areas that I feel I need to protect myself against dangerous animals I'll take my 405gr to 550gr 45-70 loads and if I am limited to a handgun it will be my 300gr to 405gr 454 Casull loads.
