Bear Defense?

Me and this thread:

(sigh) an old WWII vet that lives in the Manitoba interlake region explained to me how to do this. First and foremost you need an old cooey with a brass or metal butt plate this is crucial! next you need something or someone with less intelligence then your self to lure the bear past you. Then without hesitation you shoot the bear in the back of the head. Now! at this point the bear is not, and I repeat not dead so you must move at great speed. Grabbing your cooey let out a large war cry rush forward and drive the butt plate through the skull of that Gerry........Bastrad? Oh yeah then fetch another full jar from over by the still. No horse required

Hey y'all I got a question for you....

Is my Ruger 10/22 good enough for bear defense? I saw a video on the internet of a guy with a full auto..... Would that work better than semi?

the reason I ask is cuz my friend just told me, once, a few years ago he saw a bear 100 kilometers to the east of town...

Now I'm in constant fear that a bear is going to pop out of nowhere when I'm walking to my car in the morning and maul me.

I'm super cereal guys. This is a big problem.

Would the ruger work better of I was on a horse?

At this point your best course of action is to seek out counseling.:HR:

We need these kind of threads, inexperienced shooters need to know safety and proper response to theses real life situations. My two cents is to upgrade to 22WMR, to heck with over penetration if you have to worry about the neighbors, no problem, they will thank you for protecting there dogs, kids spouses lives.
BTW the comment about the girl guides is just awful, you should really think before you type. What good is a retired politician, lawyer, elderly for cripes sake people that don't contribute to society.

Thanks for the thread I needed this good laugh.

Must be pretty rural if the "kids spouses" are endangered.

Earlier in the thread there was a misunderstanding, where the OP stated to a response that he doesn't read ebonics. If the OP had looked at the location of the poster referenced, he'd quickly see it was not "E-bonics" but "Newf-bonics." They can sound similar, however, Newf-bonics are typically faster and higher pitched, this does not always come across in printed media.

I think the Troll from Hog Town should just go and hide on Bloor St. Maybe when pigs fly will there be a bear there for him to worry about.d:h:
Possibly a few months early for April Fools too.

You can deter a bear with a .22 if you use it as a bear banger, meaning making a loud noise to scare the bear off. Don't shoot at it unless you're an expert shot and can shoot a eye out. Bear bangers & spray are most carried in provincial parks where firearms are not permitted.

:bump:

Come on guys...are you all being super cereal now? ;)

Cereal? I'm 85% Fruit Loops! I've tirelessly researched the Internetz...well...this thread...and am now self qualified to teach Urban Dweller Ultimate Mantracker Beardefence. Here at U-Dumb, course material will include "Practical Uses for a Breaching Tip", "Cleaning Rod-fu", and "How to Sharpen your .22 Ammo". Time permitting I will be offering a seminar on the best fish oil to use as a gun lube.

I'm suprised nobody has recommended this thread for a sticky, if not in the Rimfire section, then perhaps the Optics forum re: day 2 of bear defence; the quick-detach-scope-choke...
