I'm still shaking a little as I type this so forgive any errors ok guys. Yesterday I picked up my spring bear tag with the hopes of ending my four year drought, well I got it done. A buddy and I set out at about 7:00am for the Virginia hills area north of Whitecourt. Those who know the area know it's bear country. We spent a mess of time driving the lease roads with our eyes peeled but sign was scarce. Finally about 11:00 we passed a lease and the object of our pursuit happened to raise his head from the bone he was chewing at the edge of the lease. We vacated the truck and watched as the he drifted off into the brush along the lease edge and we prepared for a stalk, as we were getting ready to start tracking the bear turned back and squared off with me at a range of about 40 yards. I'll admit right now it was a little intimidating having him try to stare me down. I was waiting for him to turn and give me a broadside shot but each time I tried to maneuver to get the shot I wanted he matched me. Finally after a fair bit of hesitation I put a 180 grain accubond into his chest, game over and a successful day. First bear and first kill of anything but chickens. All in all a great way to end a 4 year drought. He looked a lot bigger when he was staring me down by the way.

They always look so much bigger through the scope. Congrats on the hunt. He will be good eating for sure. Dam I can't believe the snow. I cut my grass today.

Good job, congrats! How does black bear meat taste? Compare it to other game if you can. It's probably the only wild meet I've never tasted, some people tell me it's sweet.
