Bear hunt gone wrong....

That's heart breaking; when their day started to go bad, it certainly didn't get any better did it. You do the best you can, but once the ball's rolling, you never really know how its going to come out in the end. Shooting an animal that is on a human victim is probably one of the most difficult problems there is to solve. This nightmare is a problem some of us have given much thought to, but there doesn't seem to be any hard and fast solution, and I certainly wouldn't think poorly of the young man who found himself in that situation and who at least tried to do something.

I dont know what I would have done when a friend is being attacked by a bear.

I know I would aim at the bear and try to shoot it, but one sudden move while pulling the trigger, everything changes.

Its hard to think ahead in a situation like that, and leave a few feet of distance between target and victim. Tough call.:(

Lots of hurting for both families. I'm sure that he did his best for his partner.

I carry bear spray on my duty belt along with my ATC handgun. I've always thought that it would give you more options in dreadful situations like this.

Sympathies and RIP.

The version I've heard had steveonson distracting the bear to save the kid and the bear killed him before succuming to fatal injuries. Either way its a ####ty deal. Guess they should have studied harder and known the difference between a black bear and a grizzly. In montana and idaho you must pass an identifacation test to get a black bear license
