I am going black bear hunting and I currently have a Savage 116 Bear hunter in .300 Win Mag, would you use 180 grain Federal Trophy Bonded Tips or Hornady Superformance 180 grain SST's? Would the fast expanding SST's still be suitable for moose and elk in your eyes?

Either will do. I killed a black bear 2 years ago with a .308 win using 150 gr Nosler ballistic tips.

Anything that fits in your chamber will work on anything walking around in North America.

Black bear are easy to knock down and you sure don't need a premium bullet. I used 300 winmag winchester 180 gr power point for the last black bear i shot and it did a good job. I like the shoulder shot on bear because it anchors them. Lungshot bear tend to cover some distance before they expire and tracking can be hard when there isn't any snow. Much better to knock them down immediately with the shoulder shot if you can.

I myself would choose the Federal Trophy Bonded Tips over the SST's just because it would likely have less meat damage. For moose the Federal Trophy Bonded Tip is the way to go I myself think the SST is a bit to fast to expand for big moose.

I would go bonded too. Sst's and stuff seem to perform better when loaded in a heavier bullet weight for caliber. That slows the bullet down a bit and helps it penetrate a bit better.
