So this will be my first time bear hunting. I have been running a bait since early august, and it is being hit constantly. I got a trail cam out a few weeks ago, and have a few pictures here. By my eyes, it is a good sized bear, but can anyone else tell me if it is? I know it is not huge, but I don't think its tiny either.

Thanks a lot guys, season opens next tues!

A good trick for guesing the size and height is to put height markings on the tree's and a stick or log that you know the length of. This should get you pretty close.

too hard to tell how big, bit I am inclined to say he is quite small. Pic 2 and 3, those ears look pretty big compared to skull size.

for a first bear, nothing to be ashamed of

So long as it is not TINY, I'm happy to shoot him. I have to reposition the camera on a thicker tree ( i think the wind is making the shots blurry).
I will also be chaining the barrel a second time to that it can only be flipped down and to the left, as it is always flipped down and to the right, and hes hit it 3 times without any pictures.

What size barrel is that(45gal?) and how far from it is he? Just compearing him to the barrel I would say he is a good size bear, I'd bet between 6-6.5'! If that is a 45gal barrel!

That's what I was thinking, but maybe he is more in front of the barrel than it seems in pic 2 if you're thinking he's little?

Having shot a pretty tiny bear myself in the past and seen quite a few from my stand this spring, I'd say that's a pretty small bear. But hey, it's a bear, right? I'm glad I shot the tiny one I did two years ago, rather than none at all. It was the first "big" (small) game I ever shot and I learned a lot about bear hunting even if I didn't have a huge trophy. And it tasted good.

notice I said "most" lol

still though, you have to admit, pretty impressive. He slapped a thousand pound grizzly in the chops and it backed off

Ah yes missed the most part. And in defense I believe the bear that killed him wasn't one of the regular bears but was a new comer or something like that I remember reading.

And yes I will readily admit I was impressed.
