Hey everyone, I managed to tag my first black bear this spring and I would like to get a 3/4 mount done. I have got deer done in the past and its usually around $450. I called a taxidermist and he quoted $1500 for a 3/4 mount, is this the average price for this type of mount or does it seem high to you too?

I don't know about a 3/4 mount. But a bear rug configuration is charged by the foot, tip of nose to tail. Mine was $250. per foot and Yogi was 6ft. Taxidermists pricing seems to vary greatly, but the good ones seem to be pricy. I would check around on various web sites and contact a few more taxidermists for more info.

1500 would be a good price for that size. Full mounts in manitoba are about 3000 and 3/4 mounts are about half to 3/4 of that amount. Its a lifelong memory so if you can go for it.

Ok, i was surprised at first but I wanted to ask around first to see what the avg prices are.
I appreciate everyone's feedback.

I sent in a bear for a half life size in May. All said and done its $1700. He's also doing a euro skull with that price.

The full cougar mount a buddy just had done was 8000.00 , but included an incredible natural surrounding with the cat lounging on a log.
The whole display fits in the corner of the man cave with his growing predator mount collection.
The cat itself was about 3500 to get done. The rest to the display and install.

Sounds like your taxidermists work awful cheap. Gotta wonder if the quality is there ?

Grizz

I have had a couple deer heads done and I know quite a few ppl that have got bear and deer mounts and everyone is usually more then satisfied. The negative feedback is usually related to how long it took to do the mount. You can expect upwards of 2 year wait around here or sometimes even longer.

a full mount grizzly bear cost me 2700.oo at gander and son's taxidermy...............but that was a long long time ago, their work is top shelf and worth the wait

get a quote from this guy, he did a black bear rug for me many years ago, very nice job. He's my cousin:)

Thanks, I just looked at his site and the photos look nice, I might contact him for a quote, just a little worried about the shipping charges.

This ran me $700 this year- Ontario so price may be different from there to here. Either way if you find a great taxidermist don't mind dipping into your pockets a little more. I had a deer head done a few years ago that was horrible. It was my first deer mouth and paid $400 It stays in the basement now.
