Bear spray experiences, had an interesting one last night.

I've seen police grade OC spray not work with a damn on both dogs and humans. Yes, sometimes it works great, but not always. I would bet the same with a bear.

Personally, I would take a fire extinguisher over OC spray for any dog.

I had to spray an attacking German Shepherd dog with a 325 gram can of bear spray. I hit him as he came in at 8' with a 2 second burst. It hit him in the face and he broke off his charge and ran away.

My preference when out on an inspection was the have both people carry spray and 1 with a gun. The person without would try spraying and the person with the gun is the backup. Luckily I never had to use either on a bear. Likely as my singing is enough to drive them off, mind you my co-workers might be willing to shoot me after a few hours of listening to me sing.

Just had a black bear wander up to my porch on the weekend. Very unusual and my bear spray was 100 yards away in a barn. I just never have had the need to use it. Coincidentally, I just degreased a newly aquired m14, but by the time I sourced some 308 he figured out my plan and booked it into the bush. A pretty surreal experience as they normally don't come this close to our house, needless to say buddy won't be as lucky next time.
