Hey guys is it to late to get a bear tag for the 2011 season? I would look at the regs but I cant get the PDF to open on my system.

Thanks Doublelung, finally dawned on my to just save the PDF to my computer, now if I could just find a service counter with accommodating hours to the working man I could get a tag.

You can still buy licenses. Right through the season.

Lots of places besides Service Ontario centres sell tags. Theirs at least half a dozen retail outlets within 15 mins of me that do (C Tire, small shops etc).

Depending where you are in Ontario determines when the season starts. Northern Ontario the season starts August 15th and Southern Ontario September 1st and 6th. Some of the other hunting forums in Ontario the guys have posted some great pictures of bears taken this season. You can by a tag right up until the end of November here. The regulations can be found here and I could open them this morning.

I had my first bear of the season on my bait station today. Nice size. No trophy but there is some good eating on him for sure.

Had two on Saturday night at a friend's spot. A little one at 120 yards that I passed on immediately. One came in behind me. I could hear him in the brush for about 10 minutes. I finally stood up in my dog house so I could look behind me. There he was sit looking at me. He dropped into the high grass just as my rifle came up. He didn't show again. But the little one sat and watched me as I closed up my dog house blind to call it a night.

Hey tbrwlf - glad u got a few coming your way now. Kinda fun eh? Amazing how something as simple as shooting a bear when it comes for food can play out various ways.
Hunting bears on the ground often means they smell u and hang up til u leave. Often u can hear them fairly close - pushing over rotten trees is common. Not sure if the idea is to let u and other bears know they are there and pissed off or just to eat some insects while they wait for the hunter to go. Once they have seen u like that change it up to get them. Leave your blind where it is and just quietly pop up a tree stand at fore noon one day and take em that night. Has worked for me when the ground blind wasn't.

Good luck.
