Bear taste (Ocean vs Mountain)

Will the fall fish bear flavour carry over through hibernation and into the spring? It's been a long time since I ate bear and am tempted with a spring hunt....just wary.
Coastal bears also eat a lot of mussels, crabs and tidal grasses. Would the "fresh" seafood diet impart any different flavour than the rotten salmon diet? Do I just assume once a fish bear, always a fish bear?
they will starve if rely on fish only for their diet.

I have only ever hunted coast bears. Always get my meat bears in the spring. But if you get a fall one make it a high country one. The meat from the spring bears doesn't taste like fish and you don't have to deal with the fat as it has been used up over the winter. The meat will be extra lean. I just add the appropriate pork fat when making sausage. Yummay can't wait to get out in a couple months

Spring bear is good eating in thompson valley b.c.(interior). gut it and cool it quickly and for the love of god dont cut through the bones.it is best to grind it up. Roasts are also dam good.

I don't eat bear meat anymore. I have personally seen bears eat "dead humans" baby diapers, and used tampons...they eat a tampon whole...I'll stick to venison.

I was told by a reliable source the fellow we all knew of back home who earned the nickname "bear bait" by reasons I won't repeat on here is no longer with us. He was apparently found drowned setting or picking up his illegal gill nets. Is that true?

Interesting, I loved the mountain bear we got i spring last year. Very tasty pepperoni and grind. Was curious if the coastal bears in spring would be decent to, and I think you answered it. I may have to give it a shot. We'll see...

Yeah in the spring when they come out they have no choice but to eat the vegetation and are basically grazing like cattle for the most part. Thus they taste better in the spring. I normally wait till the beginning of June to hunt them. That way they have had a few weeks of eating greenery to clean their systems out and get vital again after the winter sleep.
