I don't have to hunt bears - they come to me!

Heard a ruckus outside the mud room this am. Investigation revealed that our Rotty had treed a nice two year old black bear not 20 yds away. As soon as I opened the door, our other dog (a Husky/Shepherd) scooted past me. She doesn't like bears!

I had my 50-70 Sharps carbine handy as I had it with me taking the dogs on a long walk yesterday. I coaxed the Rotty away and the bear came down and took off towards the neighbour's. In the past when this has happened, I have received an urgent phone call to come over and deal with the bear.
That didn't happen this time. I guess they weren't home.

There have been many such bear sightings lately as it has been an early spring and there is a lot of food out there. A sow with two cubs and an old patriarch boar that has become sort of a icon in the community. Nobody wants to see him get shot as he causes no problems.

Black bears, well I hunt a lot of animals/birds. However wouldn't want to have to shoot a bear, unless necessary of course. Where about do you live?

Was baiting west of Nordegg one year, good 2 hour drive, with the intention of getting a nice colored bear. While I was out there one night, brown colored bear surprised the wife, right in the front yard. One of her favorite stories she loves to tell.

Had the same thing happen here. My wife was in the front yard looking for a bear we knew was about. I was looking from the sliding patio door and the bear was coming up behind her, just 25' away!
I slid open the door, rifle in hand and the bear took off t'other way. My wife looked quizzically at me wondering what I was doing with the rifle.

We live on a lake in the Central caribou 60 kms west of Quesnel, BC. We can't go for a walk without seeing bear, deer, moose sign - or the critters themselves.
