Dave "crazy_davey", James and I will be headed to the Conklin area to a trapline/private land to hunt some bears. 28 bait sites and all are hit. We are gonna take off next Friday and probably come home Sunday. James has his 44-40 all ready, I will probably take my .32spl or 308 Norma, and Lord knows what Dave has up his sleeve......

Full camp set-up so I am expecting some good action video and pics, unless it keeps raining. My buddy took a nice wolf two days ago (the place is wolf-heaven). Maybe?......

Just met Dave in March and found him to be a true pro. Super nice guy and definitely one of the "good ones". I think he might try to convince "Noel" to join us. Another great guy.

I have this digital camera/video thing kinda figured out now.

It should be a great time Randy, I am looking forward to it! I have never hunted over bait for bears before, always "spot and stock" hunted them. I am sure it will be a blast :D

As far as what I am bringing, The one on the right might give you an idea ;) :

I need to test these on something living and next weekend should be a great time to do that :D.

Randy, it is a very kind gesture to invite me along for the festivities!
Sadly Noel has to stay home for this one. He is saving for his week long Sheep hunting trip with your bear hunting comrade. Had he not made me buy such expensive hiking boots then maybe, but my dear wife would still lynch me on return.

I eagerly await all the details when you get back.

I have to get my bear gun together too, she is in many pieces.

Best of luck boys, wish I could go!

I'm sure I will be thanking you when we are high in the mountains and I don't have two sprained ankles.

I haven't budgeted for a big bear rug yet anyways.

But it's still your fault.:p

I'm going to put a fierce squeak in that gate when I build it!

Well, this is how the hunt went...... had a fantastic time with "crazy_davey" Dave. Rain the second day was bad (not as bad as the brief snow tho).....

James was in fine form on the trip. Well behaved, keen eye, and steady.

Congrats James! A fine bear.

Randy, he has the same wild look in his eye as his Dad. Me thinks you are in a run for your money soon!

And what of the other two "kids" on the trip?

Is Davey home yet? I need the dirt!

What a fantastic time you guys had! That, just makes my weekend. My little guy (4) is very impressed. I hope he gets one before I ever do. Congrats guys!

Dave.

He should be in by now. He will tell his story when he gets the chance. I think he enjoyed himself there. Traffic must be tight on the QE2.

I had a blast this weekend! James and Randy are outstanding hunting and traveling companions.

The light brown monster that I was hoping for never gave me an opportunity on this trip, thats hunting, maybe next time. I took a small fat bear last night about ten minutes before dark. I was going to pass him up but then he got greedy after watching him for a while so I put an end to his day :50cal:

Thanks again Randy for having me along.

P.S. I bet we will never forget the man with the "big stink" that we brushed paths with along the way :runaway: ;)

Nice stuff, guys, sounds like a blast. I was out cruising around for bears for the first time this weekend. Went down the elk river road, hit Cadomin, took off cause there were too many yahoos tearing around on quads and ended up in the Virginia hills.

Didn't see any bears, but lots of deer, couple of moose, and three wolves. Seems like its still might be a little early for good bear hunting around the virginia hills -- still snow on the ground in some spots, and the pipelines and ditches still hadn't greened up enough to really attract any. Thinking about heading out again next weekend though.

It was a real treat to finally meet James and have an opportunity to travel and hunt with him. He is a great young man to spend time with and a die hard hunter. I have never met a better behaved young man.

Randy definitely has someone following in his footsteps and he should be proud(I know he is, and he has every right to be).

I am pretty sure I saw James out shoot his old man this weekend, put a shotgun in that young mans hands and he is a squirrel killing machine  :D. Don't worry Randy, I wont let anyone know that young James is a better shot than you are ;) :p :D

Thanks again Randy and James! Lets get together and plan another some time soon :D

Bear trip

Sounds like you had a great time fellas!!! Congrats on raising a fine fella Randy!!! I am sure you are beaming with pride everytime you have the opportunity to take him out.
