Beaver problems

When I trapped we shot all our beavers. 22mag did the job with no problems and we used a daredevil with a huge treble hook to snag them and get them to shore. Beavers shot directly in the nose sometimes sank with flooded lungs and were a pain to retrieve. You could sit behind the house and get more than one in a night.

Soaking the house in water then dropping a lit roadflare in it is a non lethal solution. The house stinks too much to live in afterwards and they move on to a different spot. Oddly, that is usually a different water body and not just 50yds down the shore like you would expect. Good luck.

Beavers HATE the sound of running water. Crack the damn a bit, get some flowing and wait on the damn with a few 12 gauges. A buddy and me did 40 beavers in 2 days. They swim right at you, just have enough shells as they get aggressive.

In the end for all you bleeding hearts... They are RODENTS!!! And they breed like rodents. You have to go balls out or you'll be back at it in no time. Russia picked the bear... The States picked an eagle.... We picked a rodent. How embarrassing.

Beaver

If you shoot one, another one will move in next year. That is what happen to me in Ontario. I put in two pipes near the bottom of the pond and the beaver couldn't figure out why the water level isn't staying up. It eventually left. I've been beaver free ever since.

Picture is the pipes I put in.

This article is one that disturbs me for i love the natural beaver more than anything. In my home beavers are sought after by many men and many do so many things to get beaver to come home. We know how important beaver is to survival of society and would not consider turning beaver to police where police will take beaver from beauty spot and make beaver goulash where all hair of beaver is first shaved completely then sausage is stuffed into beaver for many hours before cooking at slow pace. Though it is a delicious dish I do not use beaver to make my goulash but use tuna instead because it is much better to eat tuna than eat beaver. These eco warriors have no respect for beaver and only want to see beaver banished from mother earth for all of eternal flaming sun.

I am glad that beaver is safe from prying eco warriors. These warriors are not green or they would save beaver not ban beaver. These warriors wear not helms of gold and riches to defend eco. No they wear helms of purple like the eco bashing corporations they so detest because they want beaver to be gone.

Please leave beaver beauty spots alone and respect the beaver. Beaver should be petted and cuddled and not be stuffed with sausage and eaten like a sheep eats grass in the fields under the dark moon of November. Thank you for your time.

You can thank the likes of Canuck Pammy for the very low fur prices, as doesn't pay to trap them, i don't believe her beaver is worth much anymore either.

Local trapper's number obtained.
Beaver permits to destroy them, and their dam - paid, and applyed for.

The 3 s' sounds the like fastest solution, considering it's MY property - but if caught it could cost me a whole lot more then the fee's and paperwork BS.

I just wished there was some otherway.

In the meantime, "Buoff" - Thanks for the picture and information - will try that in my downtime.
As for everyone else, thanks too - will keep everyone posted.

"David K" Do you think they'd even go for that? I'm thinking of phoning and asking, but don't want to sound stupid for even mentioning such a thing.

" Ben Hunchak " Her beaver is also filled with HEP C and carry's scores of parasites. No wonder why beaver pelts have went down in prices.

I've had no luck with a 22lr so I now keep an old 8mm ready to go. Like to get a couple a year and that seems to keep them some what in check.
Best luck I ever had was killing one and then dumping the body on top of there beaver hut (they deserved it). Came back a few day later and it looked like a bear enjoyed the dead beaver and then ripped threw the top of the hut looking for more.

It's a LOOOONG SHOT, but contact, directly, Fisheries, and also Conservation/Wildlife/Environment, as there MAY be, some available, either assistance ( suggestions) or even a Money Grant to remove them from the waterway(s) ... Fish Enhancement. ..... David K

"David K" Do you think they'd even go for that? I'm thinking of phoning and asking, but don't want to sound stupid for even mentioning such a thing.

David K is on to something there, If you have a barrier to fish passage and have spawning/rearing habitat upstream you might find interest in the removal project. You also might find that someone calls the pond critical rearing habitat, takes an interest and makes your life extra miserable.

If your water act/ wildlife permits come back with identified issues (rejection) I'd be happy to coach you through developement of a 'beaver management plan'. That is what you need if you want to keep the dams at bay over time. The wife has family near you and we worked on alot of fisheries projects in the area so be happy to drop by when in town. (especially if you have some waterfowl hunting LOL)

Installation of pipes is a great idea but again you will need permits to both install and to maintain. Get it all covered in your 'beaver management plan' so that you can adaptively manage the problem.

As for destroying the beavers going in cold and looking for an immediate result (dead beaver) leaves the trapper or a FN friend as the only option. If you have a management plan in place and have attempted other strategies (pipes, flares etc) then you will be able to aqquire the destruction permits. You have a right to defend your property from mother nature you just got to do it in a stepwise way.

Start taking pics of the erosion that flooding is causing and pictures of the destruction of stream side vegetation. Nice muddy slopes getting ready to choke baby fishes would be useful.

Update:

Apprenetly there was a misunderstanding over the phone. I filled the wrong forms out. I was informed I will require a BC trappers licence to take down those beavers, with a gun or otherwise. I will also need another permit to remove their dam, and lodge.
I phoned the BC trappers association, and obtained a number to someone who runs the course locally.

I've always wanted to learn about trapping, now I have a reason to get my licence. It seems like a real art, very good survival skill to have. Once I get it I hope I can hook up with somone that knows what their doing. Study all the books you want, but there's is nothing life the real life experience out in the field.

"David K" That's a "No go" on your suggestion, but thanks anyway. :)

Kill them all and send them back to the black pits of eternal hell :sniper:

I had it perfect tonight, the water is low enough they are vulnerable at the entrance of the lodge. Unfortunately hitting a barn door may have been a stretch tonight:(

Anyone who thinks these water rats should be protected should try the water from my well this year. Flooding and beavers caused my well to stagnate.

.....And what if you get caught by a CO who doesn't buy into the 3 s'? What then? Loose your guns, vehicle, maybe your property, fines, court, ect, ect...

Not to be rude, just sayin'.
