Maybe a silly question, but here goes. I just put a new stock on a savage axis 223 and I want to glass bed the action. Problem is, I can`t get bedding compound. Is there anything else I can use? Seems like i read on a forum somewhere about using epoxy or plastic steel I`m wondering if it would work, Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure you rough up the area well and degrease it as best you can as epoxies don't stick well to plastic stocks , in fact drilling a few shallow holes will help form a mechanical lock of the bedding material to the stock. I have used JB weld in a pinch but Devcon is a bit harder and has a nice consistency for use.

It is a wooden stock made from Russian birch plywood, almost finished, Here`s a pic

Just thinking out loud here...but couldn't you just use epoxy resin with some sort of thickener...I work in composites and we do that for small repairs etc...we use silica as the thickener. But don't just use resin...no strength in that

I just pulled my bedding job apart this morning. I used Devcon and the CND issue shoe polish for the wetweather boots and I thought it worked really good.
