I have a McMillan coming for my Sako Finnlight and I have the this question as I am getting different answeres and opinions. The stock is fully inletted for the action. Does it need to be bedded or not. I am getting three different answere from 3 smiths. One advises its not needed as they are drop in from the factory, another advises to pillar bed it, and the third advises it just need to be skim bedded.

I am just looking for opinions as if its justa drop will keep the costs down for something that is not really needed.

thanks

It will need to be bedded. This makes for a perfect match from action to the stock. Pillars and bedding is even better.

McMillan's are sturdy enough they do not need pillar bedding. Drop in stocks from them are very good but usually I "skim" bed the recoil lug action area and the rear tang ... with the barrel perfectly centered in the barrel channel. Then I know it fits perfectly...

Your choice to glass bed or not...

thanks for the input,I will try and see how it shoots as it is a good fit and then see about skim bedding as most smiths are really busy this time of the year.
