I have a bell&carlson stock for my savage 10fp , Havent shot it yet but what is the protocall for bedding these stocks with the aluminum bedding block. Do you just hogg out a bit of the aluminum and bed as you would a wooden stock? there is some roll in the action/stock so I assume it will be needed to be bedded but will shoot it first . Any help would be great ,I have bedded a ton of stocks ,just not the aluminum.

Might be a dumb question but what about extreme temps with the aluminum expanding or contracting any chance of the bedding material seperating? (marine tex or Devcon )

Thanks guys

I don't remove any aluminum unless that is required to center the barrel in the stock...

I always use Brownell's Acra-Glass and have never had a problem with it separating...

I support the barrel in the barrel channel centering it and use the rear screw not tightened... just to line the action square with the stock... let it cure stress free...

I tape the front, bottom and sides of the recoil lug for clearance...

Not pushing the Devcon product but from what I've read it is more stable that the Marine Tex you mentioned.

Derek

apperenty the USA use to use marine tex it to bed there sniper rifles and Surgeon rifles uses it to bed there rifles as well ( http://www.surgeonrifles.com/rifles/) so it cant be that bad :D

Google "marine Tex rifle" and you will see good things;)
devcon is great stuff as well

do you remove any material behind the lug ? I would think that you would want more than a sliver bedding material behind the lug?

I have not had a problem with just a thin bit of epoxy there... it sticks well and doesn't compress when cured..

Devcon. Tape the barrel to build it up so it will center in the front stock. Use long bolts with the heads cut off to align the action in the stock, keep it correctly vertical. Use KeWi shoe polish for a release. Apply it, buff it off and it will release perfectly. Tape up everything you don’t want Devcon on, Good Luck!
