I have a remingtion 700p with a HS stock with aluminum bedding blocks. I have been told that a bedding job will help accuracy. What do they do to bed them ? Thanks Andrew
IF the machined aluminum bedding surface in the stock mated perfectly with the possibly slightly warped bottom of the receiver, there would be no need to do anything. It is a common practice to apply a thin coat of bedding compound to compensate for any irregularities in the fit.
Support the barrel in the barrel channel with masking tape to keep it centered and only tighten the rear screw enough to line the action up correctly... and skim bed. It doesn't take much to make it fit right... A layer of tape on the front, bottom and sides of the recoil lug before glassing will give clearance where required.
