Bedding my Savage MKII BTVS

I didn't get the upgraded bottom metal, couldn't find a Canadian source for it. So annoying I can't order little gun parts like that from the states. I saw I could order the Devcon 10110 for $80 off Amazon, but tack on another $53 for shipping. I really have no need for a pound of the stuff at that price. Locally only Acklands Grainger carried Devcon products (most order in though) in the $200 plus range. They didn't have 10110 available just titanium, steel and aluminum puttys. I have enough JB Weld left over to bed another rifle. I read about the runny-ness of it so I worked on the bottom metal and trigger guard first and the washers. 20-30 minutes and it became a more workable texture for the main bedding.

Did you ever end up finding a thicker bottom metal?

I gave up looking and I'm not too concerned about finding one anymore.
Ah no worries. I was just wondering because there is a gentleman here on CGN that was making them at one point. Not sure if he still is or not. Its been almost 2 years now since I bought mine but I think I bought for around $25-$30.

Just going to throw this in here for anyone doing trigger jobs on their mark 2, I've done this mod to my mark 2 and to my 93r17 and works great plus I didn't lose the ability to turn it back up to heavy settings. Only thing I added to the mod was like appachie adds the ball to the seat spring to make up for the reduced pressure from the angle change the short trigger spring caused, I also added a spacer there the exact thickness as what I removed from the trigger, this way my sear retains the factory safety margin the trigger came with. Best part about this mod was it was free to do both guns, only took like 10min.

Where does the ball go exactly? The shim? Do you have some pics of your job?

Just order it from Kinneys Shooting Supplies in the US. He ships up here no problem. http://kinneysshootingsupply.com/collections/savage-accessories

Wish I would have know this a week ago, got a couple kits coming, but this would have been a simpler method lol.

I don't have any pics but could pull it back apart and take some if you really need, if you speed through this appachee install video and see where they use the ball bearing, I cut the ball end off a pop rivet that was perfect for my application and used it, I left a bit of the stem on and put it in the spring for a guild. It might not have been necessary but I wanted to retain stock sear tension.

Cool, thanks for the link. That should do it but thanks for the offer of pulling yours apart for pics.
I am just about to tear into my FV-SR in a TR stock to see what I can do long range with it.
I have Burris Signature rings coming with the offset kit so up to 30MOA offset I think. 6-24x40 Sightron SII for optics.

The trigger job is easy to do and makes a big difference, I didnt polish my parts at all will maybe give them a quick one next time I have the stocks off.

I haven't shot mine past 100yards on paper yet, some day going to do some playing around with it, have to pick some standard velocity ammo one of these days when I come across some.

Forum member making thicker bottom metal: r204. I contacted him some time ago and he had one bottom plate left.

The Apachee Trigger Kit makes a huge difference and ensures you can reverse your changes if you don't like them and/or make a mistake. AFAIK Savage will not send out replacement trigger parts, which is why I went with the kit. The ball bearing sits in the bottom of the detent for the sear spring (?). You'll see it in the video.
