I've had issues a couple times now with the release agent that came with the Bedrock kit, clear oil like liquid. Cleaned the action thoroughly with acetone and applied good amount and it doesn't release. I'm sure this has been discussed and everyone might have a different opinion. I'm just learning.
Whats your go to release agent?
Thanks

I have used as in Post #2. Also an aerosol - can says "MG Chemicals 8329 Epoxy Mold Release". For most release that I have used - waxes or spray on - I started to always do twice - in case I missed areas. Most recently had to set a bedded rifle outside in minus 30 for about 45 minutes - that allowed it to be separated - but was all on me, as I had inadvertently created a mechanical lock - was not "stuck" as it looks like in your picture.

I have epoxy bedded several Rem 788 like yours - several Mausers, etc. I do not recall leaving the scope on to do that - that should not affect the epoxy, but might be in the way about getting release agent on - I found that epoxy gets "everywhere" - even where I do not expect it to go - so I apply release to most all the metal - even where I am not really certain that it will be needed. I also put masking tape on the stock where I do not want the epoxy to stick - outer surface, inside magazine well, etc. Perhaps was "old school", but I was shown to have epoxy quite thick - so gouge out lots of wood behind recoil lug - around action screw bearing surfaces - maybe waste of time, I do not know.

Older stuff was PITA - very runny - occasionally had to make dams to hold it where I wanted it - like modern liquid Devcon - runs everywhere - more modern Gel stuff tends to stay put, better.

I think one product you can use is clear shoe polish, from what I've read guys put it on then buff it off when dry, do it so they have a couple of layer?

I think it's kiwi clear polish.

Ive used " Kelly's" professional grade mink oil a few times

Basically leather conditioner (i have it for my shoes, but after reading about using it online for releasing agent i tired it. Works perfectly

Its similar to vasoline in feeling. Just s small amount to make the metal look wet/shiny i use modeling clay in the bolt holes and open spots.

I also cover way more metal then actually touches the bedding compound

Paste wax here too. I couldn't find the specific brands mentioned to me on CGN, ended up picking up some Turtle Wax. It says "Super Hard Shell paste wax" on the can, bought it at Walmart. Only bedded one rifle with it, but had no issues.

I am in similar situation - was looking for "Johnson's paste wax" - used to be really common for hardwood floors - could not find any - so ended up with a tub of "Trewax Clear Paste Wax" - works fine. I suspect pushing 7 or 8 years old, now. I use a small artist's paint brush - perhaps 1/4" (6 mm) wide - to apply it. Since I use it for other things, almost always have liter jugs of Acetone here - saturate a paper towel, to wipe off the wax when done.

As other have said, great results with Kiwi Neutral shoe polish.

If you are having trouble releasing the action, try sticking your gun in a deep freezer for 15 - 30 minutes, then carefully tap the underside of the barrel with a rubber mallet. So long as there isn't a mechanical bond it should come out easy.

Wow, thanks guys! Some great ideas here. Looks like I need to pick up some Paste wax and/or Kiwi shoe polish.

I have some of this stuff in photo below im going to try some test patches with as well. I'm going to try tests before i get myself into another mess like i already did. I wish i had known about the freezer trick as well, i thought it was going to split the stock in half trying to get it apart.
