Is bedding the action difficult to do?

Is bedding the action difficult to do? I have two rifles that that would need doing. Should buy the supplies and risk screwing it up and just pay to have it done right?

There is a gunsmith forum, you may want to request quotes , cause it can get tricky, and you could split a stock , if its done poorly. oops, this is the gunsmith forum

Not wanting to take work away from any 'smith, as they are truly the pros, but...

If your a bit handy, it is not difficult at all. Research the internet and read all the tips you can get. After much research, I recently started doing action and barrel bedding myself (actually bedded another rifle (my 17 HMR) just today) and it worked out great.

I'd contact one of the 'smiths on this board if you are not handy!

I have done it in the past. Not difficult but you do have to pay attention to what you are doing.

Nope. Buy an Acraglas kit(about $30) and follow the direction on the box. You may have to remove a bit of stock wood, but it's not difficult.

Hello Ducimus I am in the same boat as you and from what I have researched it is worth the effort. There are ton's of material out there on the web about how to. Just do a google
My problem is the bedding material where I live cost (Devcon) cost 50.00 for the smallest container. So I have to find someone to go halves with me or bite the bullet and get a smith to do it for an extra 25 or so dollars.

JB weld will do it if your on a budget. i did my enfield with it and it turned out fine gonna do my stevens project with it as well. i used turtle wax as a release agent

And they got all these cool toys to remove material from the barrel channel and not leave huge gaps. The metal fits in where it is ment to. And you don't have to worry about firing the rifle , and get a split in the rx wood. Then your groups go to a shotgun pattern
