It's a good way of putting it, a small piece of the larger puzzle. Some like to start off any shooting with a new gun by bedding the action, freefloating the barrel, adjusting the trigger and recrowning the barrel, but that's not me.
I prefer to check over the gun clean lube and adjust the trigger and head out to the range, I need a benchmark! and without doing this I wouldn't know where the heck I am going! If accuracy is a problem even after I tried some of my handloads I will come back to the gun and investigate further, it is rare today that a factory hunting gun cannot keep its groups inside 1 1/2" and the heavier target / Tac / Varmint style rifles should be able to hold 1" or under consistently with good factory ammo, with handloads well you could probably do better.
