bees wax

Well i've found it there in the past.........mind you I'm not worried about contaminated Chinese wax when I'm casting lead in a well ventilated area anyways. They were marked beeswax?

Get 5 lbs or so should last a long time. Having said that why dont you try the dry lub method. 5 parts denatured alcohol and 1 part olive oil or castor oil. When the alcohol evaporates you will have what appears to be an almost dry patch. This can maybe increase your accuracy in a front stuffer.

Guess you don't mind abrassive contaminats making their way down your bore then?

I made a very good lube recently. Baby bell wax mixed with ATF. I was out just yesterday with my rock-lock in -12* and the patches I had soaked just peeled apart.

If you can find some raw unprocessed beeswax, it is pretty easy to render it down so that it is clean enough for our purposes. I got a bunch from a local apiery, and it was cheap and worked fine.

I'm glad you had good luck with it. It is easy to render down but I found I had to filter it twice and even then there was still a fair amount of honey in the remaining wax. Also I bought around 7lbs of unrendered stuff and I think I will be lucky to get 2lbs (or maybe 3) of good clean wax. Mind you it was 1/3 the price of filtered bricks so depending on the cost of beeswax bricks in your area the raw stuff may be worth the extra work. In my area a 1lb brick is $9.00. I did make my first small batch of lube with it and it turned out great.TC
