Hi im just getting into IPSC shooting.. and i need a good gun to use for it
i currently own a 45 Colt but i dont want to use it for competition

what gun can i get that is great for use and not too expensive.. i wanna use it in stock

Para P16-40cal is good to start. You could also use what you have untill you decide what seems the best for you. There are lots of options but your the one going to be shooting it. So get what seems the best for you. Just have fun.

buy smth cheap to start...then if u like the sport then! BUY the best you can afford as you will upgrade sooner or later...

well i just bought a CZ 75 for production so far i am enjoying it and....

I JUST FINISHED MY BLACK BADGE.. YAY !! =)

and i was wondering what kind of holster i need for it.. is there any speed holsters for the CZ?

ooooh you've fallen hard! already gaming it, I love it! and yes I believe that Ghost makes a holster for the CZ.

ya i just bought a cr speed holster a couple weeks ago... works great.. like it better then ghost

.40 Norinco clone of the CZ-75/85, with a nice trigger job, is very affortable and will serve you well. Contact Rodger at mauser13@brant.net and he'll get it ready for you, or tell you more info. He also has a .40 norinco built to his design, for standard (also in .40: the "DARK 40", he's the RK of 'DARK' ;) ).

In my opinon the money you spent on a CR Speed holster is waste down the toilet. The difference between a $20 Uncle Mike's and a $200 race holster, for me, is about 0.1-0.15s on a draw, and that only makes a difference in the few stages where you don't need to move to get into your first shooting position. Getting good mag pouches (like the CR speed's) is much more important, maybe you already have some, plus a good stiff belt (like the CR Speed again). There are alternatives to mag pouches and holsters, but I believe CR Speed makes the best shooting belts...

Other than that, welcome, and have fun!

A regular USP is great in 9mm for production division. Get a V#3 detent plate so your lever only decocks. I say this because you may accidently put it on safe during a course of fire. OR, spend a little more and get the Custom sport. Mags are cheap these days if you order from the US; $6.99- $7.99 for a 10rd mag.
A trick to making the DA trigger press smoother is making sure the hammer strut and contact areas with the bottom of the hammer are WELL lubricated. A gun grease like Slide Glide can be used on the reciever rails (slide moves smoother that way) Another part is the bottom of the hammer strut were is enters the lanyard loop hole. After a while it rubs the finish off, so that area needs lubrication as well.

Omen,
Just curious, but what do you use for IPSC?

I use a Norinco NP22, at the moment. Used to shoot with CZ-85Combat, have also a G17 but I never liked the Glocks: just got one for people whom I'm teaching use in IPSC. I also have a Sig which I tried, thinking I'd use it in US, but I didn't like it as much as the Norincos... I had a bit of a problem this weekend with plates at 35m - will need to try it a bit to see if it was the gun or me...

don't let people push you into a particular make or model - try them, and make up your own mind. Also don't think that price of the gun is any indication of your performance with that gun - you can't buy performance.

After reading this thread i want to start :)

My first handgun will either be a HK USP shot all calibers a few times and liked it, or a Sig P226 Stainless (Have to find a range with one i can shoot). Would the sig be legal? Wich would be better the 9mm or the .40? (I like .40)

I so have to get my PAL.

Care to elaberate on "Trigger job" ;)
Omen,
I would hope that this is a "qualified" trigger job.- because I thought you could not modify - unless you changed classes.
Also I wonder about your comment about price/performance. I would tend to suspect that practice is a major component - but that a fully loaded open gun (STI for example) would be more precise than a NP22?
