I believe the scope base on your rifle is a Weaver TO-1 base... about the only base available for that rifle.
You can have a rear sight added on the barrel.

you are restricted to what is on the rifle a weaver to9 base designed for 3/8 dovetail rings
lee enfields we're not not designed for scopes that was a after thought
Nope, he isn't restrictect to the weaver bases on the rifle.

The cross bridge piece is still intact on that rifle and there are at least two different QD mounts that will work on that configuration.

They likely won't won't just be an easy on off system that the OP would like, but SK Insta Mounts will do the job reasonably well.

The real problem will be the issue rear sight, but I've see a couple of rifles with the No 4 Lee Enfield Mark 2 battle sight with one ear trimmed for the SK mount.

Weaver also offers the
Lee Enfield 4&5 (Weaver)
Brownells #
794001045
MFR #
1170
UPC

The other option would be to have a tangent type sporting sight mounted on the barrel, for a rear sight.

the sk mounts have no travel what so ever eye relief becomes a issue barley enough space for the turrets in the middle
good luck o and sourcing anc cost will be a factor
thanks for the update

https://www.badacetactical.com/prod...mEzdel6Z0OWiykXQWuKf_CvqXrlAGEGasoxDZlKSQDdMz I came across these rails in my brief searching. Not cheap and would have to replace rings obviously as well but maybe for a winter project.
I had one. Wouldn't work with my MK2 rear sight. Had to run MK1 and then it was off line. Rather have the lower T01 like it was on.

Id slap a mk1 sight on it. Then just would make a witness mark on the rings to line it up to the base to install it on the same spot.

The BadAce works well. I never put the stupid flip site on it as I didn’t like looking through the tunnel.
The rear sites come up regular on the equipment exchange. Flea Bay also so has them. Lee Enfield Parts and militaria in the UK also has them available. Sarco in the US had them a few months ago.
It’s a sporter and I’d use it as is.

Have a set of thumb screws made for the existing rings. Then you can quickly detach the scope without using a screwdriver. Have the same smith supply and install a rear sight.

But why?
Shoot it like it is... that's what your grandpa did.

I've got a couple of the SK mounts and other than being higher than I like, they work well when a "cheek riser" is installed.

One is on a 45acp conversion and the other is on a sporterised No 4 MkI Long Branch 1950. No issues with mounting or sighting with the scopes I have on them.

S&K also work well. I have two of them. And as Bearhunter said a cheek riser is needed I made up one sporter with a wooden cheek riser with a S&K mount. Done on a receiver and barrel that had the barrel cut and a couple holes drilled in the receiver. Come to me as parts.

Thanks all for the info so far. I am looking to change the rifle minimally as it has sentimental value. My original thought was to have the iron sights as backup and if there was a way to change only the rings and bases that would be acceptable. Part of the thought was because even with the monte carlo stock its tough to get a good cheek weld. Maybe a totally different tactic like a leather cheek riser is a better way to go. Still keeps changes to a minimal.

OP, if push comes to shove, you can make up a very sturdy scope mount with a piece of angle aluminum or iron.

Use the ejector screw hole as a mount, and add a set screw to the angle iron over the top bridge to get proper elevation, and another on the side to hold it true and you're good to go.

Purple posted a pic of one he had done for one of his rifles.

I've done a few and you don't need much in the way of tools.

If you have to get "someone else" to do it, cost is prohibitive. The S&K mounts work very well.

The monte carlo stock riser on your rifle was purpose designed to use the original OEM sights, that's why it's to low.

If you're handy with wood work, adding an adjustable cheek riser isn't difficult and won't deter any value from your rifle. You can even utilize the present riser on your butt.
