Beginner upgrade to O/U for skeet?

Are there any experienced shooters at your club who are willing to observe your shooting and make recommendations? In my opinion a good coach can make all the difference in helping to identify what your problems are. At my own club I know there are a number of well qualified shooters who are happy to help out newcomers. Ask around first and try to avoid the club "know it all". One of our better shooters can make a pump gun sing like a semi-auto.

A semi or O/U would be a definite upgrade from the pump, but getting something with an adjustable stock and making the gun fit you would have the most immediate and pronounced effect on improving scores.

Quick follow-up. I ended up briefly with a Benelli semi, and while I liked it, the reach from grip to trigger was too long and not adjustable (not the same as LOP). I have since purchased a Browning Cynergy CX and for the price I am thrilled. I have only shot a round so far, but it is a leap ahead of the pump even just in feel. This model is significantly cheaper than the sporting model and essentially the same, less the porting and no hi viz bead (I like the white better anyway).

I plan on getting an adjustable butt and maybe comb over the winter.

Having a decent gun may not make me shoot better (actually it does to a point), but it adds tremendous enjoyment.

In my opinion the type of gun you shoot only matters in so much as the type you’d prefer to own & shoot. I shoot break actions, pumps and autoloaders. The break actions are my preferred choice but I can miss with them as easily as the others. Missing targets is the easy part of the game, it’s only tough on the mind! ;)

I agree with the spank about what ever you prefer is how you enjoy the game and honestly trap does not get any better than shooting it with a old cooey model 84! I know the enjoyment you get from a gun you enjoy as I use my father Stevens o/u that did not fit great and I bought a citori I just love using the gun if I miss or Not!

Except the OP is asking about skeet, and you can't shoot skeet with a Cooey single.
