Hello all,

I am sure this has been asked far too many times before but in your experiance, is this a good all around quality fun to shoot 9mm for medium sized hands? My rpal is on its way and i have a limited selection of pistols to hold and test fire..so far a glock 17 and sig p226 are all i have fired. i know the glocks reputation is legendary but its feeling in my hand and trigger pull are not 100% for me

my first choice so far is a beretta 92A1 9mm. I have had the pleasure of holding and examining this pistol and the wieght and grip feel great but i have read about some reliability issues..?

any input is appreciated thanks!

the new 92A1's should suit your purposes just fine! if it feels good for you then i'd say go for it... so much is personal preference anyway. i have nothing against glocks but they don't suit my hands/grip so i haven't bought any. I'd have one of these Beretta's but there's just other stuff i want more first ;)

solid choice though, i wouldn't hesitate.

was the 226 you fired one with the 'old' grips or the new E2 ones? the new ones feel 100000x better to me, not as chunky. at any rate, get what you feel comfortable with and can afford!

Thanks for the reply!
I am unsure of the revision model of the sig i fired but it looked like it was used for a few years..felt alright and fired nice..i might have to look for one of the newer models to test!

92A1 was my first handgun. CZ shadow is also a good entry class one.

By the way, both of them are recognized by IPSC. If your budget allows, you may also want to search the horizon for a Germany made Sig Sauer P226 (at least the frame is made in Germany, such as P226 Elite stainless). i guess wholesale sports has some online.

I figured i would come and update this...I dropped a few hundred $ down to hold on a nice new 92A1 at a local store and now i just have to wait for the rpal to arrive

Congrats in advance. I just picked up a 92FS myself. I was leaning towards the 92A1 earlier. It all came down to cosmetics in the end and didn't care much for the rail, but now I'm thinking, a railed pistol would be nice too. Can't have 'em all unless I win the lottery I suppose. :p

I already called dibs on the upcoming 50 million! Lol

And to the OP, since this is Canada you may as well go with what feels the best in your hand. Because the likelihood of you having to trust in it to save your life is rather slim. I personally did not like the 92 model myself when I shot it, but that's because I had already become a Sig fan. I just hated having a safety, and didn't particularly like the trigger. But I'm sure you'll love it, because a new gun is a new gun, you can't complain about that.

LOL, second price can still fetch me a lot of toys too, but I'd just have to keep my job to afford ammo.

Does anyone in Canada sell match grade hammer/sear kits etc for the Beretta?

Tell you what, if I win the full fifty million on friday I will send you a cheque for $5000 for ammo lol. . . but ONLY ammo (and maybe for a nice gun too)! :D

I will be getting my first restricted shortly and decided on the 92FS, shot the 92fs, p226, deagle, s&w460 and various other 22, 9mm, 40 and 45 cal stuff to get a feel for a range of different stuff. I liked the beretta 92 out of everything for a variety of reasons so ill be going with that.

There is nothing at all about the Beretta that makes it a bad first time gun other than the grip size. It takes a hand that needs large to Xlarge gloves to hold it well. Smaller hands need to look at other options.

So if you can hold it so it naturally fits back in the notch between thumb and forefinger and it lines up with your forearm in a natural manner and you can still reach the trigger comfortably then go for it. They are VERY nice guns which will serve you well be you a first timer or a long term well seasoned ol' gipper..... :D

That's the best way to do it, I think too many people "regret" (can you ever REALLY regret a gun purchase, as long as it works) that first gun because they went with what someone said online or their buddy told them to buy "that one". You could have tiny little baby hands, or maybe baseball sized mitts on you and your gun purchase will change depending on that. Better to at least get a feel for several types of guns, ideally shoot them all, but at least get that feel for them. So good luck with your purchase and make sure to shoot the ever living sh*t out of it every chance you get. I'm sure several more will find their way into your home over the years.

Congrats. I got a 92FS from Prophet River last week. Sweet gun.
