Beginners Luck

Great deer. Her son actually told me today during class that his mom shot a big whitetail. He showed me a few pics on Facebook and was shocked when I told him I'd already seen them this morning.

Was it during a Instrumentation Class at SAIT? Thats funny

Lots of blood, she smoked it right through the jugular in the neck. That thing was a walking tree. Look at the wood. The beams measured almost 7 inches round.

After talking to a taxidermist buddy, the score has changed. According to the Boone and Crockett rules " if there is no G4 present, then an additional measurement of the circumference is to be taken on the G3 half way between the base and the tip..." This increases her gross of 167 1/8 by an additional 7 4/8 to a total of 175 5/8. Making this a massive 4x4. It is NOT a 4x5 because the 1 1/2 inch sticker is on the G3 and not on the main beam, It is a 4x4 gross 175 5/8. I have no idea what the record books say.

I certainly does count! It's a non-typical 4x5 WT deer, and a very nice one! Good for you Fiddler! (I thought for sure the sticker was at least one inch. my bad )

Actually when you first indicated the score of 167 I emediately thought that was low. I know what a 175 class deer looks like up close. A friend shot one two years ago while I was standing beside him. We (taxidermist and myself) measured it and it grossed 175 5/8.

Good job!

This isn't my deer. Its my girlfriends deer. Not her first buck, but her FIRST deer. She is actually quite overwhelmed and a bit intimidated with all of this. She really doesn't know what to think, other than it it one monstrous deer. Funny thing, when she first shot it, she was worried about what I might think if it turned out to be larger than my biggest deer. Its 20 some inches larger than my best, and i couldn't be happier for her that a first time deer can be so large. I've been hunting for 35 years and never shot anything that nice. How much better can a first time deer experience possibly be?
