So, my buddy is driving around on the weekend and sees a sign that reads "Guys Garage Sale" in someone`s front yard. Figuring on it being some tools or such he decides to take a peek(he never goes to these things). As he was looking around the owner notices he is wearing a camo jacket. Asks if he is a hunter and would he like to look at an old shotgun."Sure" my bud says.
Turns out to be a Lambert double 10ga. Buddy was looking for a new one anyways as he wore his old one out. "How much" bud asks. I`ve just finished playing with it and is it clean! Bores look brand new, nice wood, real tight too. Owner asks if $200.00 was OK. Keeping a real straight face, my bud says "sure".:D He waited until he got home before he did the "Dance of Joy".......then called me.
Ya gotta be in the right place at the right time.

DF:D

I have a friend who picked up a Martini Henry in 455 and Swiss 1896 straight pull bolt for $150 for the pair at one garage sale, the women selling them thought he was someone else who arranged to come by. He was honest and said he was not but she gave them to him anyway. Gotta love it.

I picked up a Browning 'Medallion' A-Bolt .22 cal. with scope---still in the box.
I came across an ad. in the 'Buy & Sell', phoned the guy up and his reason for selling it was, "I can't hit anything with it, it's not very accurate"
He had only shot perhaps 20 or 30 rounds thro it.

I was confused
These rifles are extremely accurate.

I got his address and drove right to his house.

Took the rifle out of the box, complete with scope, focused on a target, only to find that the target instantly "SHRUNK"

I said to him "I can see your problem, the target is difficult to see"

The scope was on "BACKWARDS"

I bought the rifle, scope, cleaning kit and 2 bricks of ammo for $280
He did not care, he just wanted to get rid of it because it was 'no good' :)

The rifle alone, new, (which this is anyways) sold for around $800 plus tax

Why didn't stuff like that happen to me when I lived in North Van?

Oh yeah, because I was 12 and packing Vancouver Sun's on the longest paper route in BC.

Both of my 'Haggisbasher' Jnrs. are doing the N/S News paper route every Sunday morning ( with me helping them on the rainy days)
SO BUM, feel good about your early days in N/Van,delivering papers, you helped pave the way for two young fellow CGN kids, Haggisbashers I & II ;)

If you EVER grace us with your presence at a 'Haggisfest' we will give you the 'Royal' treatment;)
POPCAN and myself have often wondered if you will ever be able to make the trip and join us, it's a long way we know, but, perhaps someday

Is $350 for a Remington 1100 with 2 barrels, or an old Marlin in 30-30 at $250, one of those "Right place" moments?

Just wondering...

I hope to. And certainly once I'm out of the North it'll be feasable. As it is, the closest I'll get to Haggisfest with you and popcan for a couple of years is the Mountie Stomp with Gatehouse, HS, Amphib and todbartell.

I rewired a guys house and he asked if I was intersted in a rifle to cut down the bill. I said maybe, and he went and got it. turned out to be a pre '64 winchester model 70 in 30/06 in beautiful shape.
I asked what he wanted and he said $250. I was still in a daze looking at it when he said well how about 200. I said Ok and took it directly to the truck and locked it.

I had the girls at the office trained that if someone called wanting to get rid of guns (ie the chopper) that they were to hold the file, check the guns to see if they were clean, and if so I'd call the owner and offer them some cash for the firearm in question. Might as well get a little jingle in your jeans right? They agreed with my logic. Unfortunately never got anythign especially good, but they all count one and they all have a purpose.

H&K USC in mint condition with one mag from Target Sports in Ontario for $1150, after following a lead posted on this very forum!:D

$285.00 for my BT99.I still smile when I think of that one.My best deal however was when a kid who wanted a little Kawasaki 100 that I had for sale for $300 traded me a Husquavarna 30-06,complete with Leupold VariX111 3.5X10 scope straight across. His girlfriend thought that the motorcycle was cute.I though that she was cute!!I even delivered the motorcycle to his house.

That Browning 22, what a deal, hard to swallow the scope on backwards thing though. Thats pretty funny:D
Some day, I will get a deal .
Frank

Kid you not, i couldn't believe it myself.
The guy told me that his uncle fitted the scope on for him (it obviously wasn't a gun shop) and when i paid him the money, i drove directly to 'Reliable Gun & Tackle' handed it to Shane and said,'what do you think of this set up'
Took one look at it and said "the scope is--------"
You finish the story :)
When i told him what had just taken place, he also couldn't believe it.
He turned the scope, i bought some targets, another 2 bricks of ammo, we had a good laugh and off i went :D
