Recently acquired a Trombone (or I think its a Trombone). Can anyone please date this rifle with a 5 didget serial # begining with 759? What makes a "Trombone" a Trombone??

Thanks in advance,

gb

It look like a dive tail yes. Silver bolt with a notch where a square darker metal part sits with a small cylinder shaped piece of metal behind it. Has FN on the trigger guard and "Fabrique Nationale D'armes De Guerre S.A Herstal -Belgique" on the barrel. I would say this gun is in near mint condition. Has a 5 didget serial # 759--

La mienne date de 1952, car j'ai fais une recherche dans le temps, mais je ne trouve plus la page...

Mine dates from 1952, I did a search a while ago, but cant find that page anymore,

cant figure out how to post pics.......talk about confusing

Forum software does not support pictures directly. Disabled to save space on the server, or some such reason.

You need to upload photos to a Hosting Site, like Photobucket, ImageShack, etc, and copy the code to the post here that you wish the photo to be in.

I have a couple, one earlier than yours. Couldn't accurately date it, even the Browning website doesn't have records (that I could find).

Dated it to within a few years by bracketing it with guns/serials of known dates. Don't have the date records with me, but serial is 42### and I believe from the 1930's

Those are great little walk about rifles (in or out of the knapsack)....and I really like how incredibly simple the action is yet they run like a top with short or longs.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of Trombone prices ranges? A local gun shop has a restored Trombone that they want $1000 for - I am guessing that this is to cover all the parts and labour required to restore it. What would a used, unrestored, Trombone in very nice shape be worth?
Thanks

It doesn't answer you question directly, but 2 years ago I picked up a nicely working prewar example with good wood but has been rebarreled for the tidy sum of $125.

anyone else notice the picture also says 1952 on the time o_O?

The only trombone that would be worth $1000 would be one from the late 60's new in the box and unfired. A refurbished one if done wright and the markings not pulled from buffing or blurred with redone or new would. $500. Tops
