Ok so not great value. It just sits in my safe so was thinking of turning it into a self defense shotgun. Either that or sell it. At least if i mod it, it will have some use to me. As it sits its too damn long to be of any use.

There are better guns to bubah for home defense...
Less moving parts being the first reason that comes to mind.

Ya it was dads shotgun and i dont really want to sell it. So it just sits tucked away. Never get it out cause you have to clear furniture out of the way to swing it. Like frig its 6 feet long. I dunno. So what do you do? If A5s are reliable cycle wise why not. If i sell it, its gone. Maybe i will turn it into a nice lamp. A5 lamp? yes i like it.

Why not use it? I'm sure it would serve OK duty for upland/small games. The occasional round of trap?.. If not, any other family member to pass it on?
- Personally, I can be a little OCD about things... Even if I wouldn't use it much, I'd get something done about that recoil pad...

I would NOT bubba a gun like that. Being it was your Father's, it deserves better. That action is not reliable enough to be used as a defence gun anyway IMO. Sure, it may not be worth a fortune, but it is worth keeping, don't you think? Long barrels offer excellent sight planes and really help your shooting. Clean it up really well, make sure the friction rings are all set up, figure out what it is choked, and shoot some clays with it. You might be surprised how much fun it is.

One problem with that gun is the fore stock cracks if it is not tightened down all the way when using magnum loads. It happens a lot. I own one!!
Mine is a truck gun and it is glued and screwed together. Works great on grouse.
Cutting the length down the rib has to be silver soldered back on and the bead relocated.

Hayya Zeddee, way back in yawner years there wuzz a chap that shortin’d thuh bawril
and added a mag tewb extension.
Look’d pretty slick and funkshunned well.
No idea ware the yewteeb video to went.

That buttpad needs to vammyeesh.

That is an extremely reliable action when shooting the proper loads with the proper friction ring setup. Much more robust and reliable than an 1100/1187....they used auto-5's in WW1. But, like the 1911, you have to man up and give it a solid backstop to recoil against, can't soft shoulder/limp wrist it.

Don't bubba that gun. You can buy a new Turkish gun for less money and bubba the h$ll out of that. Those auto 5's though a little heavy are nice to shoot. Howitzer like!

cheers,
